Senegal vs egypt

We're down to the final four in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and Wednesday's first semi-final sees Senegal, who won their first and so far only title in 2022 (2021 Afcon), take on record seven-time champions Egypt, who haven't tasted success in this competition since 2010.

Below are my Senegal vs Egypt predictions, alongside all the latest team news and match odds, ahead of this rematch of the 2021 final at Tanger's Stade Ibn Batouta (17:00 GMT, E4).

Team News

Senegal haven't reported any injuries, so boss Pape Thiaw could line up with the same starting XI that overcame Mali 1-0 in the quarter-finals last Friday.

Football Odds

Egypt defender Mohamed Hamdi (ACL) saw his tournament end after his country's 3-1 extra-time victory over Benin in the last 16, but otherwise, head coach Hossam Hassan has a fully fit squad available to him.

The Pharaohs may stick with the starting XI that served them well in last Saturday's 3-2 victory over Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals.

Senegal vs Egypt Predicted Lineups

  • Senegal: Mendy; Diatta, Koulibaly, Niakhate, Diouf; Diarra, I. Gueye, P. Gueye; Ndiaye, Jackson, Mane
  • Egypt: El Shenawy; Fatouh, Ibrahim, Rabia, Fatouh; Abdelmaguid, Fathy, Attia; Ashour; Salah, Marmoush

Senegal vs Egypt Odds

Senegal are 23/20 favourites in the Match Result market, implying a 46.5% probability of success in regulation time, while Egypt are 11/4, or a 26.7% chance, to secure safe passage to Sunday's final without requiring extra time or penalties.

The draw, which would ensure another 30 minutes of football is played, is priced at 2/1, while the Lions of Teranga and the Pharaohs are 8/15 and 11/8, respectively, in the To Win Tie market.

Betfred's Price Boosts include Nicolas Jackson 1+ Shots on Target, Sadio Mane 1+ Shots on Target & Mohamed Salah 1+ Shots on Target at 5/2 (was 2/1).

Senegal vs Egypt Stats

  • SEN are averaging 16.6 shots p/g (14+ in 3/5)
  • EGY are averaging 12.2 shots conceded p/g (14+ in 2/5)
  • P. Gueye (SEN) has taken 2+ shots in all four apps (12 in total)
  • Two of the last three H2Hs have gone to extra time

Bet Builder - Senegal Over 13.5 Total Shots & Papa Gueye (SEN) 2+ Total Shots @ 3/1

Senegal have recorded 82 shots at the 2025 Afcon, averaging 16.6 per game, and they've managed 14+ in three of their five matches, including both knockout phase wins.

Egypt, meanwhile, have conceded 61 shots (regulation time only) at the tournament, averaging 12.2 per game, and they've seen two of their opponents, South Africa (18) and Angola (16), register 14+ attempts. Ivory Coast (13) only fell just beneath that number in last Saturday's quarter-final, so shot-happy Senegal could really rack up the shots on Wednesday.

Should they hit that number, I'd expect Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye to be responsible for at least two, having shot 12 times across his four appearances so far (12 in total).

The 26-year-old shot twice in each of his group-stage outings against Botswana and Congo DR before doubling that number against Sudan (scoring twice) and Mali.

Match Result - Draw @ 2/1

Senegal, boasting a much more talented group of players and three wins by a margin of two goals or greater at this tournament, are understandably favourites to win this semi-final, but Egypt are a side not afraid to scrap it out, and I believe extra time is on the cards in Tanger.

Egypt have drawn in regulation time twice already in Morocco (v Angola and Benin), while Senegal have experienced one stalemate (v Congo DR), and two of the last three head-to-heads between the Pharaohs and the Lions of Teranga have gone to an extra 30 minutes following goalless draws.
