There is a whole host of action that could impact the title races across the continent on Sunday, with Aston Villa looking to confirm their aspirations against Manchester United in the Premier League.

The top three in the Scottish Premiership are all in action, while a huge clash in La Liga between leaders Barcelona and third-placed Villarreal forms part of my Football Accumulator tips for Sunday, December 21.

Aston Villa (H) to beat Manchester United (16:30) @ 23/20

Aston Villa started this round of fixtures in third place in the Premier League standings, a mere three points behind Arsenal, despite failing to win any of their opening five games.

The gap has been shredded thanks to the Villans tremendous run of form, losing just two of their last 17 games in all competitions, while winning the other 15 including the last nine on the spin.

One of those successes was a well-deserved 2-1 win over leaders Arsenal at Villa Park and they look to big to ignore at 23/20 to make it 10 against the Red Devils.

Ruben Amorim's men may be in sixth place and have lost only one of their last 10 games, but they have shown little ability of keeping any defences at bay - just one clean sheet this season - while they are without key players Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui and Casemiro.

Hearts vs Rangers (13:30) - Under 2.5 Goals @ 10/11

Hearts will be top at Christmas regardless of Sunday's results but they are there to be shot at with both Celtic and Rangers within touching distance and they will be desperate to maintain an advantage.

The Gers are nine points behind in third, albeit with a game in hand, but have been struggling to turn draws into victories, with eight of their 16 Scottish Premiership games ending in a stalemate.

Having already lost to Hearts, who have also beaten Celtic twice so far, this is unlikely to be a gung-ho encounter and under 2.5 goals looks a value play.

Five of the Jambos' last six games have featured less than three goals, as did their 2-0 win at Ibrox earlier in the season, while Rangers only edged Hibernian 1-0 last time out. This is unlikely to be a Christmas cracker on the goal front.

Villarreal (H) to beat Barcelona (15:15) @ 5/2

It is perhaps dangerous to take on Barcelona given their array of attacking talent as well as the fact that they have wrestled the initiative in the title race back from Real Madrid.

However, what problems they have had have come on the road and Villarreal have dominated on home territory to the tune of seven wins and a draw out of eight games, scoring 20 goals and conceding only four.

The Yellow Submarine are very much in the title race themselves, lying eight points behind Barca in third but with two games in hand.

Hansi Flick's men have lost at Real Madrid and were more surprisingly thumped 4-1 at Sevilla, while they have also been held at Rayo Vallecano domestically. In the Champions League, they have lost 3-0 at Chelsea and drawn 3-3 at Club Brugge.

Given their strong home form Villarreal look worth chancing, particularly as they have recent history having won two of the last three games against the Catalans, albeit both were away.
