Leg 1 - Portsmouth vs Queens Park Rangers - BTTS - Yes @ 4/6
We’ll start with my lot. We don’t keep clean sheets. The last time we did was back at the start of November in a 0-0 home draw with Wrexham. Since then, defensively, Pompey have been decidedly ropey. Going forward things are looking slightly better, the balance of Josh Murphy, Conor Chaplin and Callum Lang across the line behind Colby Bishop has created more in the final third.
When you throw in the fact QPR have produced five-straight matches where BTTS has been a winner. I see no reason not to expect them to make it six on Boxing Day.
Leg 2 - Milton Keynes Dons vs Swindon Town - BTTS - Yes @ 4/6
MK Dons are the top scorers in EFL League 2, having found the back of the net 42 times in 21 matches. They also have the second-worst defensive record out of the top five. The only team in those positions with a poorer ratio of goals to minutes are Swindon Town.
The Robins also have the joint-second best scoring record in the aforementioned top five. So the two best going forward plus the two worst at the back. You can see why the stats seem to suggest actions at both ends here,
Leg 3 - Gateshead vs Carlisle United - BTTS - Yes @ 4/7
The hosts have conceded 18 goals in their past six matches. That is a shocking average of three-per-game. That is good for Over 2.5 Goals backers but also interesting for BTTS. Gateshead have the worst defensive record in the division at 53 from 22.
When it comes to the visitors, they have been money for Both Teams to Score backers seven times in their past eight. Put all that together and this feels like a good leg to add.
Leg 4 - Morecambe vs Rochdale - BTTS - Yes @ 8/11
Gateshead above the worst defensive record in the National League but Morecambe are only a tick behind with 52 conceded from 23 matches.
Rochdale head into Boxing Day sitting on top of the table on goal difference. They are very strong at the back but they have seen BTTS come in three times out of their past four on the road, including shipping four at York last month.
Leg 5 - Wealdstone vs Boreham Wood BTTS - Yes @ 8/13
No team in the division have scored more goals on the road than Boreham Wood. That is exactly the type of profile we are looking for in this accumulator for away sides.
Wealdstone have produced BTTS in four of their past five in league play. They have also only kept just one clean sheet at Grosvenor Vale in the National League since September. Put that all together, I like this leg.
Leg 6 - Cercle Brugge vs Union Saint-Gilloise @ 4/6
When I take on this column, I like to throw in a game from outside of England just for a bit of fun. I’ve gone with a game from Belgium, where relegation-threatened Cercle Brugge face league leaders Union Saint-Gilloise.
Here is a stat that might surprise you. Despite being second-bottom, the hosts have scored in every match bar one since September. The only team to stop them from scoring? You guessed it, Union Saint-Gilloise in the reverse fixture. Only Anderlecht have stopped them from scoring at home though all season-long, that gives plenty of hope that they’ll find the back of the net on Boxing Day.
As for the visitors, they’ve only failed to score three times from 19 matches in the Belgian Pro League. Happy to throw this leg in to get us to just short of 20/1.
