Namibia vs Oman Prediction: Rival captains could star in Group B opener

Namibia and Oman begin their T20 World Cup campaigns at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados at 01:30 on Monday, June 3. The teams are in Group B alongside England and Australia, winners of the last two T20 World Cups, and Scotland, so they will be desperate to make a strong start to the tournament.

Namibia's exciting young all-rounder Nicol Loftie-Eaton was a surprise omission from their squad but left-arm paceman Ruben Trumpelmann, player of the match in the 2021 T20 World Cup win over Scotland, has been recalled.

Oman opener Jatinder Singh did not make the cut after a lean run of form with the bat so Kashyap Prajapati and Naseem Khushi should team up at the top of the order.

Namibia are 4/9 to frank the form of April's T20 series by beating 13/8 Oman at the Kensington Oval.

Veteran Bilal Khan is 16/5 favourite to be Oman Top Wicket Taker, having claimed 106 scalps in 75 T20 internationals.

Namibia had opening stands of 76 and 58 in their last two matches against Oman and they are 4/6 to have the Highest Opening Partnership.

Aqib Ilyas Oman Top Run Scorer @ 3/1

Aqib Ilyas has played a prominent role in Oman's cricketing history and the skipper should be backed to lead by example in their opening game of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Ilyas, vice-captain when Oman made their tournament debut in 2016, led the team in 2021 and he warmed up for their clash with Namibia by making an unbeaten 66 off 48 balls against Afghanistan on Wednesday.

The number three made starts in the first four T20 internationals against Namibia in April, scoring 19, 23, 26 not out and 24, and he lit up the final game of the series with 51 off just 29 deliveries.

Ilyas's five subsequent T20 knocks include classy half-centuries against Bahrain and Hong Kong and he is a tempting bet to top-score for the underdogs.

Gerhard Erasmus Namibia Top Wicket Taker @ 15/2

Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus made a blistering 64 not out off 29 deliveries to seal the 3-2 series win in Oman and he also played a key role with the ball.

Erasmus took 1-20, 3-7, 2-17 and 2-22 in the four matches in which he bowled and the off-spinner looks overpriced to be Namibia's Top Wicket Taker in Bridgetown.

He has developed into a genuine all-rounder, bowling at least three of his permitted four overs in 13 of his last 15 T20 internationals, and he claimed 3-15 in an impressive win over Zimbabwe last October.
