Lords scaled

Both sides are licking their wounds after Spirit were comfortably second best against Birmingham Phoenix and the Superchargers were brushed aside by Manchester Originals.

Dan Thomas looks ahead to Wednesday night’s clash, live on Sky Sports from 18:30, as he brings us his London Spirit vs Northern Superchargers predictions…

Spirit lacking impetus

Spirit’s trip to Edgbaston ended in a seven-wicket defeat after their 126 for 6 proved far too light and Phoenix comfortably chased down with 35 balls to spare.

Kane Williamson top-scored with 33, but again he failed to up the tempo when most needed. Questions have to be asked about a top order featuring the Kiwi and Ollie Pope - white-ball specialists, they are not.

With the ball, Luke Wood and Daniel Worrall were steady at the start of the innings but Phoenix went after Richard Gleeson and Olly Stone. Liam Dawson injured a finger attempting a caught and bowled and is a doubt for this one.

Superchargers baked by Originals

The Superchargers were well beaten by Manchester Originals, bowled out for 114 when chasing a big total of 171. David Miller’s 38 was the only innings of substance as Harry Brook, Tom Dawid Malan and Zak Crawley all fell cheaply, before Originals pacer Sonny Baker cleaned up the tail with a hat-trick.

The bowlers lacked control at Old Trafford with the usually economical Adil Rashid going for 37 runs and Matthew Potts being hit for 39, although the England pacer did pick up two wickets.

It was only Superchargers second defeat of the campaign, however, so a win at HQ will get them right back on track.

Pitch & conditions

Lord’s has typically been hard to score on in the Hundred, with an average first innings score of 137, but it looked a decent surface last time out when Spirit scored 162, spearheaded by a Jamie Smith half-century after he was promoted to open. The hosts will be hoping for more of the same on Wednesday. The weather is set fair, with no rain expected and temperatures of around 20c.

Key odds

Spirit are rated as 11/10 shots here, with Superchargers the 8/11 favourites. While we have plenty of doubts about the make-up of London's batting line-up, the visitors haven't quite found their balance yet, so there may be some juice in the home win price here.

After a slow start in the first game, David Warner has quickly found his groove, scoring 165 runs at an average of 41.25, and he's the 14/5 favourite to top score for Spirit, with Williamson at 10/3. With Smith promoted up the order, there may be a slight edge on his 7/2 quote. For Superchargers, skipper Harry Brook is the 10/3 favourite with opening pair Zak Crawley and Dawid Malan both 7/2.

Best Bets

Spirit have been up and down over the tournament and concerns remain over the middle order but I think Warner and Smith will take a liking to the Superchargers attack and I'm happy to take the hosts at an odds-against price.
