World Cup favourites India are bidding to make it seven wins out of seven at the tournament when they face Sri Lanka in Mumbai at 8.30am on Thursday, 2nd November.

India bowled out the Lankans for just 50 in their last ODI meeting in September's Asia Cup final and they are expected to outclass their neighbours again at the Wankhede Stadium.

India vs Sri Lanka Prediction

  • Mohammed Shami India Top Wicket Taker @ 11/4
  • Sri Lanka Most Match Sixes @ 5/1

Team news

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is unlikely to be risked as he recovers from an ankle injury, so the tournament hosts could name the same team who beat England on Sunday.

Sri Lanka have limited options to freshen up the side who lost to Afghanistan on Monday. Fast bowler Lahiru Kumara (thigh) was ruled out of the tournament before that match and Dushmantha Chameera has been called up as his replacement.

Match odds

After six straight victories, India are unsurprisingly 1/7 to beat 9/2 Sri Lanka, who were thumped by ten wickets in the final of the Asia Cup in September.

Captain Rohit Sharma is 12/5 to be India’s Top Run Scorer at a ground where he has enjoyed great success with Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Rohit smashed an ODI record score of 264 against Sri Lanka in November 2014.

India are 4/9 to have the Highest 15 Overs Score and 8/15 to post the Highest Opening Partnership against 6/4 shots Sri Lanka, who have lost their first wicket with the score at 22, nine and 18 in their last three games.

Mohammed Shami India Top Wicket Taker @ 11/4

India's bowlers have been superb in the early stages of the World Cup, most notably on Sunday when they dismissed England for 129 to seal a 100-run win in Lucknow.

Conditions may not be quite as helpful at the Wankhede Stadium, where South Africa piled up 382-5 in last week's victory over Bangladesh, but Mohammed Shami should still be a handful for the Sri Lanka batters.

The experienced fast bowler warmed up for the World Cup with a five-wicket haul against Australia in Mohali but he sat out India's first four matches of the league stage.

However, he returned to action in spectacular fashion, taking 5-54 against New Zealand on a flat pitch in Dharamshala and 4-22 in seven overs against England.

Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali were among Shami's victims at the weekend and he can add to his tally against Sri Lanka's inconsistent top order.

Sri Lanka Most Match Sixes @ 5/1

Sri Lanka's defeat to Afghanistan was disappointing given that they had beaten the Netherlands and England in their previous two matches and they have showcased their explosive batting at times in this World Cup.

They kicked off their campaign with a high-scoring defeat to South Africa, when they hit 17 sixes to the Proteas' 14, and they struck nine maximums to Pakistan's six in another runfest in Hyderabad.

The Lankans won the sixes count 3-1 in their victory over England last week and are worth chancing at a big price to clear the ropes more often than India.

Hardik Pandya, one of India's biggest hitters, is injured and destructive Mumbai Indians star Suryakumar Yadav may also miss out so six-hitting could be one department in which Sri Lanka are able to compete with their in-form hosts.
