After muddling their way through to the round of 16, England stepped up a level in Mexico City where they overcame the difficulty of playing at over 7,000 feet above sea level plus the added challenge of Jarell Quansah’s 54th-minute red card.

It was by far the best performance of the tournament from Thomas Tuchel’s side and sets them up nicely to take on Norway, who are one of the rising forces of international football.

Norway qualified in style - scoring 37 goals - and have created history by reaching the last eight for the very first time.

The Vikings finished a strong second to France in Group I before pushing on with a pair of superb 2-1 victories over Ivory Coast and Brazil.

Norway vs England Odds

England have been involved in a lot of massive matches over the last decade and their extra experience could hold the key to defeating Norway in an entertaining game.

Tuchel made some brave decisions when he announced his World Cup squad, but they seem to be paying off.

There have been moments when some England fans have bemoaned the absences of talented individuals like Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but the spirit and togetherness of the group was there for all to see in Mexico City where victory was achieved in the face of considerable adversity.

England had to do things differently against Mexico, but they produced moments of quality for the first two goals and defended intelligently and heroically when the need arose.

Unlike the previous matches, it was a team effort with considerable contributions from the wide players, Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon.

Tuchel is getting ever closer to settling on his strongest side and that can only be bad news for Norway, who have had to deal with a sickness bug in the build-up to the game.

Norway are an exciting, attack-minded outfit who deserve plenty of respect after scoring eight goals in the group stage and seeing off two strong sides in the knockout rounds.

And they possess one of the tournament’s outstanding players in Erling Haaland, who was the point of difference with two superb goals in the stunning 2-1 victory over Brazil.

Keeping Haaland completely quiet may be an impossible task for the England defence.

But, while Norway have one likely match-winner, England possess two thanks to the consistent excellence of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham.

The pair have twice combined at important moments with Bellingham supplying a superb cross for Kane’s goal against Panama, before the roles were reversed for the crucial second goal against Mexico.

They have developed a deadly understanding which could be key to terminating Norwegian hopes.
