Ecuador vs Germany Bet Builder Tips: 46/1 for second string to be too strong

Ecuador have been painfully poor dark horses so far at the 2026 World Cup, failing to score a single goal against Ivory Coast and minnows Curacao. It means they have to win their final group game against an imperious looking Germany outfit, who have already secured top spot in Group E.

I know some will look at this game, where Germany are expected to heavily rotate, and expect Ecuador to pick up a result, but I simply cannot see it. Not only have Julian Nagelsmann’s side looked strong so far at the World Cup, but their substitutes have made a massive impact.

They’ve also got a far better squad in terms of depth that they are getting credit for. We can expect Deniz Undav, Nick Woltemade, Leon Goretzka, Nadiem Amiri and Malick Thiaw all the start, so the level won’t drop that much from the first XI. 

I think Germany will be able to dominate an Ecuador side who have severely underperformed. They came into this World Cup with one of the best defences in the world, and that has held relatively firm with just one goal conceded, but their attack has been tepid. 

Captain Enner Valencia is well past his best and still plugging away up top, and there’s a shocking lack of creativity in this side - which became apparent as they failed to beat a Curacao side that Germany scored seven past.

Deniz Undav to score 2+ 

The main man… or at least the man who is in with a decent shout of starting the first knockout game for Germany. Undav has come off the bench twice for Germany and Nagelsmann knows he will surely have to include him in the starting XI for this one as he looks to displace Kai Havertz for the knockouts. 

Undav got two assists and one goal off the bench against Curacao, and then turned the Ivory Coast game on its head with two goals having been brought on on the hour. Three goals in two sub appearances then, and I expect him to do more damage given more gametime.

After 25 club goals in 46 this term, he is in red-hot form, and could be the surprise package in the illustrious race for the Golden Boot. I’ll back him to bag at least twice in this one. 

Moises Caicedo 2+ fouls (Sub Switch)

A more sensible pick now. Ecuador’s dominance vs Curacao meant Caicedo didn’t make a single foul last time out, but he made three against Ecuador and is a good price to get 2+ against a Germany team who should enjoy plenty of the ball. 

The Chelsea man is going to have to be robust, and he should be able to make two or more fouls.
