Lucky 15 Tips: Dough can hit the jackpot at Pontefract

Saturday 20th June 2026, 17:55

One of the most exciting weeks on the racing calendar comes to an end on Sunday, with Royal Ascot behind us, but there are three meetings to look forward to across the afternoon. With no Irish representation, all of our fixtures are in Britain and Pontefract get us underway in the afternoon, with Brighton and Hexham following soon after.

Everyone loves a Lucky 15 and we have you covered! Our expert has picked out four strong fancies on Sunday and they can be combined to form a very interesting little bet. Among them is a thoroughly unexposed handicap debutant for Paul Cole. How intriguing!

Horse Racing Odds

14:35 Pontefract - Goyard @ 11/2

A field of 10 has been declared for this competitive handicap over the minimum trip and the David O'Meara-trained GOYARD gets the nod. The son of Mehmas has only had two starts in handicap company and should be winning races in this sphere sooner rather than later.

He produced a very eye-catching performance when absolutely bolting up in a Redcar maiden last season and that form was boosted by the fourth, who won a handicap next time out. Scoring over this trip under a penalty in September, he should be bang in the mix here.

15:13 Hexham - Kientzheim @ 3/1

Ben Haslam has earned his reputation as a shrewd handler of JP McManus' trickier horses and he has already worked his magic on KIENTZHEIM. The grey mare started her career in France and she managed to win a couple of bumpers, before heading to Nicky Henderson.

She won a decent maiden hurdle at Kempton on her first start for Seven Barrows but didn't really build on that success. Making the switch to Haslam in the autumn, she won a Class 4 at Musselburgh off a 6lb lower mark and the six-year-old is entitled to go close once again.

15:35 Pontefract - Sax Appeal @ 13/2

The Pontefract Cup is one for the extreme stayers and the 2m2f trip will take some getting. Charlie Johnston's SAX APPEAL finished sixth in a good race at Chester over a similar trip and if returning to form here, he's one of the likely candidates from a stamina point of view.

It's worth noting that he's back down to a mark of 86 and the six-year-old’s last victory came off this mark at Southwell, scoring by three lengths on that occasion. He was too bad to be true when last of five at Goodwood last time out and he's definitely capable of much better.

16:05 Pontefract - Ray Mon Dough @ 3/1

There are a couple of last time out winners amongst the field here but it's handicap debutant RAY MON DOUGH who looks the most interesting. He could hardly have been more impressive when bursting clear on debut to score by six lengths at Lingfield in November.

You can put his below-par display at Kempton on seasonal debut down to the fact that he badly needed the run and he was much better back over 6f at Lingfield last month. Handicaps look like the way to go now and he's entitled to be competitive off a mark of 90.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £790 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
