Team News
Elijah Just was New Zealand's star man against Iran with two goals, both of which were assisted by captain Chris Wood. Considering Wood had missed most of the 2025/26 Premier League season due to injury, his fitness levels were slightly surprising against Team Melli.
It doesn't take away from the fact that he's his country's all-time top scorer with 45 goals. These two players are going to be the All Whites' source of inspiration once again.
Sheffield United's Tyler Bindon is expected to continue in defence alongside Wrexham's Liberato Cacace. Saint Etienne's Ben Old is likely to continue in attack.
Egypt have a lot of quality on offer in attack with Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, Trezeguet and Eman Ashour, who scored their goal against Belgium last time out.
New Zealand vs Egypt Predicted Lineups
- New Zealand: Crocombe; Payne, Boxall, Pijnaker, Cacace; Bell, Stamenic, Just; McCowatt, Wood, Old
- Egypt: El Shenawy; Rabia, Abdelmonem, Hany, Fatouh; Fathy, Ashour; Adel, Salah, Marmoush; Trezeguet
Despite some concerning form before the tournament, New Zealand looked sharp against Iran as they went ahead twice in the match. They are a 5/1 shot to defeat Egypt.
The Pharoahs are the 3/5 favourites to pick up the three points, while it's 11/4 if you think both teams are in line for another draw.
Two of New Zealand's previous three fixtures have gone Over 3.5 Goals, which is on offer at 3/1 on this occasion.

New Zealand vs Egypt Stats
- Egypt have scored twice in 3 of their last 9 matches
- New Zealand have conceded 2 or more goals in 4 of their past 5 fixtures
- Chris Wood had 4 shots against Iran, with 2 of them hitting the target
Away Team Total Goals - Over 1.5 @ 10/11
Egypt were made to pay for not extending their lead against Belgium and after seeing New Zealand lead twice against Iran, Egypt will need to be more effective in the final third.
With Salah, Marmoush, Trezeguet and Ashour, they're not lacking for talent in attacking areas. They pose a far greater threat to New Zealand on paper than Iran, and I think we'll see this out on the pitch.
I'm backing Egypt to score at least twice because three points here could carry them through to the knockout stage for the first time since 1934. They've managed this feat in just three of their previous nine outings, but I'm more looking at the fact New Zealand have conceded twice in four of their previous five fixtures.

Player 2+ Shots on Target (Sub Switch) - Chris Wood @ 17/10
Wood may have been the provider against Iran but he so easily could've had a goal or two himself in that contest. The New Zealand front man registered four shots at goal, with two of them hitting the target.
I think there are gaps in Egypt's defence that can be exploited, and so I think Wood could be a nuisance on Monday. I'm backing him to have two shots on target here at 17/10, which has an implied probability of 37%.

New Zealand vs Egypt Score Prediction
- New Zealand 1-2 Egypt
There were things to like about both teams' performances in their opening games, and this could make for an interesting tussle in Vancouver. I think New Zealand are about to face a step up in opponent, particularly when it comes to attacking stars.
And it's the Pharoahs' forward players that I'm expecting to be the difference here.
