Belgium vs Iran Bet Builder Tips: 13/1 for entertainment in LA

Both opening games in Group G ended in draws which means it is all to play for ahead of the second round of fixtures. Belgium rescued a 1-1 draw with Egypt, while Iran played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with New Zealand, and the pair meet in Los Angeles on Sunday (12pm local, 8pm BST, ITV1).

Having watched two thoroughly entertaining Group G matches, I’m hoping the same pattern will follow as Belgium face Iran. Iran in particular, were both incredibly creative and open in defence against NZ.

They played an aggressive 4-4-2, and had 17 shots but conceded a huge eight shots on target against an unfancied New Zealand outfit. That game finished 2-2, while Belgium were also fairly entertaining, with 15 shots to Egypt’s 14. 

I think we are set to get a wonderfully entertaining match in LA, with both teams striving to gain a vital three points that would likely take them through to the knockout stage. Defending clearly isn’t the strong point for either side, so let’s start with over 3.5 goals. 

Romelu Lukaku to score anytime (Sub Switch)

Romelu Lukaku’s impact on Belgium was almost immediate as he came off the bench, sprinting into the box and forced the ball into the net, via the foot of the unfortunate Mohamed Hany. Belgium are a different beast when Lukaku is on the pitch, and I don’t think Rudi Garcia can afford to leave him on the bench again. 

He brings his nation a physical focal point, and I think he will be able to bully this Iranian back four and given how much time they gave to Chris Wood in the opening game, he should take advantage of that space with a goal. Iran’s number nine is their biggest threat, and he isn’t shy at getting shots away. The 33-year-old created once chance and even though he didn’t score, he did have two shots both off target against New Zealand.

Saeid Ezatolahi to get booked (Sub Switch)

Let’s finish by backing an Iranian to get booked. Saeid Ezatolahi played the full 90 against New Zealand and was the player who had committed the most fouls for Iran on the day (two). He avoided a booking but also made one tackle and four defensive contributions, so he’s set to play a big role again here. 

Up against Kevin De Bruyne and Co., I don’t think he will be as fortunate in avoiding the referee’s notebook this time around.
