The Netherlands and Japan get their FIFA World Cup Group F campaigns underway on Sunday (9pm BST/3pm local, ITV1/STV) when they face one another at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The two sides previously met in the 2010 tournament, with De Oranje running out as 1-0 winners.

Netherlands

The Netherlands were one of the teams who didn't get to head into the World Cup with the full list of players from their original squad list. Jurrien Timber had to withdraw because of a groin problem and Ronald Koeman decided to replace the defender with Lutsharel Geertruida.

Denzel Dumfries is set to be De Oranje's starting right-back throughout the tournament, and he thrives in being effective in the final third. Micky van de Ven, Virgil van Dijk and Jan Paul van Hecke should complete the back four in front of Bart Verbruggen.

All-time top scorer Memphis Depay is expected to lead the line, while Crysencio Summerville, Donyell Malen and Cody Gakpo are the leading candidates to operate on the flanks.

Japan

Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitomas was left out of Japan's World Cup squad because of a hamstring injury. He looked set to be a starter for the Samurai Blue this summer but their starting XI looks set without him.

Wataru Endo had to withdraw right before the tournament started because of a foot issue and he has also retired from international football as a result.

Junya Ito and Takefusa Kubo are set to support striker Ayase Ueda. Ritsu Doan is likely to start as the right wing-back, with Keito Nakamura on the opposite side.

Premier League duo Ao Tanaka and Daichi Kamada are likely to be the midfield partnership.

Cody Gakpo (Netherlands)

He may get a lot of grief for his inconsistent performances for Liverpool, but Cody Gakpo seems to continually tick when playing for his country. He has 19 goals in 48 appearances for De Oranje, including three at the last World Cup and three at Euro 24.

He's not the flashiest player in Koeman's squad but he's effective. We all know he likes to cut in from the left but he continues to show that he can find his route to goal that way.

Ayase Ueda (Japan)

Striker Ayase Ueda has just had an excellent goalscoring campaign with Feyenoord, netting 24 goals in 31 Eredivisie appearances. The 27-year-old also has a strong record for the Samurai Blue, bagging 16 goals in 39 outings.

Eight of them came in 11 World Cup qualifiers, so he looks primed to take on the key responsibility up front for Japan this summer.
