Nap of the Day: Big Fun up in Yorkshire on Sunday

There is no shortage of racing this Sunday either side of the Irish Sea, with the Sunday Series moving to Thirsk while there are also cards coming up from Nottingham, Fakenham, Listowel and Kilbeggan.
Sunday’s Nap comes from the North Yorkshire venue of Thirsk where there is a cracking seven-race card, which includes six competitive handicaps.
The nap is in a 5f Class 4 handicap and there is every chance that he is going to take a step forward from his reappearance.
Kevin Ryan is a trainer that excels with his sprinters and one that looks primed for a big run on Sunday is Big Fun.
This son of Showcasing showed lots of promise as a juvenile, going close twice in novice/maiden company before getting his head in front in a Musselburgh maiden on his third career outing.
He was then far from disgraced in the Weatherby’s Super Sprint when only beaten roughly four lengths and that form has worked out well with the winner going on to enjoy Group 3 success in the interim.
Most notably, his return outing was full of promise at this venue, finishing fourth of 14 in a competitive handicap and he shaped like he was in need of the run that day, only fading late.
The return to quicker ground is likely to suit and a high draw (stall 11) should also be an advantage given that they tend to come to the stands’ side more often than not at Thirsk.
Kevin Ryan could hardly be going much better with five winners from his last 24 runners and this three-year-old looks like the sort that will kick on throughout the campaign after his promising return outing.
With Betfred offering an extra place on the race, he can be played from an each-way perspective and he looks like the value play at the current prices.
