Nap of the Day: Earl Of Sefton? I’m Damysus-picious

Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

Well done in particular to Nap of the Day backers that secured Best Odds Guaranteed for Startled (tipped at 7/2) at Newmarket on Tuesday. He returned at an SP of 17/2 in the 15:00. If Carlsberg did drifts...

It's the exact same venue and time for Wednesday's selection - and hopefully the same result.

I like Damysus, but I'm against John & Thady Gosden's four-year-old in the Earl Of Sefton at Newmarket on Wednesday.

The son of Frankel, in the peacock blue and old gold silks (thanks Google) of Wathnan Racing, was a smart three-year-old, winning at this level over course and distance in October, and he seems the sort to be even better with another winter on his back.

However, on his return to action on Wednesday he's asked to concede three pounds to the race-fit BOILING POINT, who's a pound superior on official ratings. That's no easy task.

Damysus may well be the best horse in the race, but I don't believe he's suited by the conditions.

Boiling Point, trained by Karl Burke for the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, is a five-year-old who made all of the running to win the Cambridgeshire carrying topweight in September.

To win that off a mark of 109, you've got to be a Group horse in a handicap, which is exactly what I'm hoping this son of Too Darn Hot has developed into.

Although the form is nothing to shout and scream about, I was encouraged by his return to action 147 days later in the Winter Derby over 1m2f, the longest trip he's faced to date, at Lingfield in February. He shaped like a horse in need of the run - and traded like one too, with an SP of 5/1.

That ought to have put him spot on for this Group 3 over 1m1f at HQ. He enjoys it on the Rowley Mile, boasting form figures of 2211.

Tactically, I can see this playing into Boiling Point's hands. He's a front-runner who in this six-runner race might be allowed to dictate on the front end. If that happens, he could be hard to pass - especially with that all-important fitness edge.
