Osasuna vs Real Madrid Preview:
Real Madrid are the new leaders of La Liga after Barcelona slipped to a surprise defeat at Girona earlier this week. Los Blancos have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top when they travel to Osasuna on Saturday.
Despite issues on and off the pitch, and a change in the dugout with Álvaro Arbeloa replacing Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid have reeled off eight straight victories in the league. While they've rarely looked convincing this term, the individual quality that exists in this squad has been sufficient to win 79% of their matches.
The current leaders are on track for a 95-point season, which would be their joint-third highest ever tally. However, there is certainly a greater risk of more slip-ups over the remaining months as the Champions League action heats up.
There may come a point when the pursuit of a record-extending 16th European title takes precedence over La Liga, and we could see some light rotation this weekend. This match falls in between the two legs of their play-off tie against Benfica.
Real Madrid are in a strong position to secure progress, after a brilliant goal from Vinícius Júnior secured a 1-0 win in Lisbon last week. That match was overshadowed by allegations of racist abuse made by the Brazilian against the Portuguese team's Gianluca Prestianni.
The second leg of that tie at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday is shaping up to be a heated affair, but Los Blancos can't afford to look too far ahead, with in-form Osasuna expected to give them a real test this weekend.
The Pamplona club made quite a slow start to the campaign under their new boss Alessio Lisci. The 40-year-old was a summer appointment from second-tier Mirandés, where he built a really competitive young side that was capable of playing attacking football.
There was little sign of that in the early days at El Sadar, but gradually the Lisci project at Osasuna is starting to take shape. 22-year-old Víctor Muñoz has begun to impress with his pace and technical quality in the final third, and he won't be lacking motivation against his former club this weekend.
Osasuna also spent €5m in January to sign 23-year-old Raúl Moro from Ajax. His arrival gives them another option in an attack that is still spearheaded by Ante Budimir. The experienced striker was the third-highest scorer in La Liga last season, and he ranks fourth this time around with 11 goals in 23 appearances.
Los Rojillos have hit form of late, with three wins and two draws from their last five outings in La Liga. They held high-flying Villarreal to a 2-2 draw in their last outing at El Sadar, but it was a less convincing display in a goalless encounter at struggling Elche last time out.
Team News:
Osasuna are set to be missing two players as they target a major scalp on home soil. Iker Benito and Enzo Boyomo are both sidelined due to injuries.
Muñoz has also been a minor fitness concern, but he's set to be available for the visit of the club he departed in the summer. Lisci may also recall Jon Moncayola in midfield.
As for Real Madrid, there is uncertainty across the pitch as Arbeloa weighs up whether or not to rest players ahead of the second leg against Benfica. Some light changes are expected, with the likes of Franco Mastantuono, Dani Carvajal, Gonzalo García, and Dani Ceballos pushing for recalls.
Kylian Mbappé has been dealing with a knee issue over the past few weeks, which again raises doubts about his participation in this game. The Frenchman was an unused sub for the 4-1 win over Real Sociedad last weekend, but did play in the Champions League.
Éder Militão and Jude Bellingham will definitely miss out again, while Rodrygo is an additional fitness concern.
Osasuna vs Real Madrid Lineups (Predicted)
- Osasuna: Herrera, Rosier, Herrando, Catena, Galan, Torro, Moncayola, Ruben Garcia, V. Munoz, Oroz, Budimir
- Real Madrid: Courtois, Alexander-Arnold, Asencio, Huijsen, Carreras, Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Guler, Mbappe, Vinicius
Match Odds:
Real Madrid are priced at 4/6 to record what would be a ninth straight victory in La Liga. Osasuna are available at 18/5 to win the game, while you can back the Draw at 3/1.
Five of the last six Osasuna games in all competitions have seen both teams score, and you can back a repeat at odds of 8/11 here. The hosts are also on offer at 6/4 to win either half.
Real Madrid have only let in two goals in five league outings so far under Arbeloa. They're priced at 9/5 to win this match to nil. You can also back Los Blancos to score over 2.5 goals at 2/1, while the visitors are available at 3/1 to win both halves.
Mbappé is the 4/6 favourite in the Anytime Goalscorer market, although the extent of his participation in this game is unclear. Vinícius Júnior has scored four goals in his last three appearances, and the 25-year-old is priced at 4/1 to score first and 13/10 to score anytime.
From a home perspective, you can back Muñoz to score first against his old club at odds of 11/1, while he's on offer at 9/2 to score anytime.

Osasuna vs Real Madrid Stats
- Real Madrid (59%) have the second-best possession numbers in La Liga behind only Barcelona (69%).
- Both Osasuna and Real Madrid have been shown four red cards this season.
- Osasuna's Ante Budimir has committed the most fouls (36) of any player in either side.
- Only Akor Adams (31) of Sevilla has been caught offside more than Kylian Mbappe (20) in La Liga.
Bet 1 - Over 1.5 goals & Osasuna over 9.5 shots @ 1/1 via Bet Builder
While they've not been conceding many goals in La Liga, opposing teams are still causing problems for Real Madrid. Despite losing 4-1, Real Sociedad won the shot count by a 13-11 margin at the Bernabéu last weekend. Benfica also had 10 attempts against Los Blancos in midweek, having registered 22 shots in the league-phase meeting, which they won 4-2, in January.
Against what may be a rotated visiting lineup, Osasuna look good to reach double figures for efforts on goal in this game. They tend to be much more positive at home than away, with 10 of their 11 outings at El Sadar this term serving up at least two goals.
Given that, I'm using the Bet Builder to back Over 1.5 goals and Osasuna to have over 9.5 shots at 1/1.
Bet 2 - Ante Budimir to score anytime @ 6/4
Real Madrid's defence has looked vulnerable at times when faced with crosses into the penalty area directed at powerful forwards. Alexander Sørloth has caused them big problems in recent Madrid derbies, and they'll be in for similar treatment here against Budimir.
Only three players can better his average of 3.4 aerial challenges won per game in La Liga this term. One of those is Vedat Muriqi, who has scored a headed goal against Los Blancos this season.
With five goals in his last five appearances in the Spanish top flight, Budimir is in fine form. I'm backing him to score anytime at odds of 6/4.
