Team News
Conor Coady has been a revelation for Nathan Jones and Charlton, and the Welsh manager is deploying him just in front of the back three after his arrival in January. He should start here again, with Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell looking to secure another clean sheet after the 1-0 win over Stoke.
Tyreece Campbell scored the winner off the bench and could start in place of Matty Godden in the front three, while Conor Coventry will have to work hard to force his way back into the XI.
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho will have been frustrated with his team’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United after an excellent display. Star man Josh Murphy is on his way back but this game will come too soon, so Millenic Alli will start on the left, with Adrian Segecic on the right.
Charlton vs Portsmouth Predicted Lineups
- Charlton - Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Clarke, Coady, Docherty, Chambers; Carey, Campbell; Dykes
- Portsmouth - Schmid; Devlin, Poole, Ogilvie, Swanson; Pack, Adams; Brown, Swift, Alli; Bishop
Charlton are priced at 6/4 to win this game, with Portsmouth the slight underdogs at 2/1. That gives the hosts an implied win probability of 40%, with a draw at 21/10.
Over 2.5 goals is 5/4, BTTS is 10/11 and Charlie Kelman is the favourite to score first at 9/2.
Charlton vs Portsmouth Stats
- Charlton have picked up seven points in their last three games
- The Addicks have kept three clean sheets in a row
- Portsmouth have lost their last two games 1-0
BTTS - No @ 4/5
Based on what we’ve seen from both of these teams recently, I’m not expecting a scintillating game at the Valley. Charlton have turned a corner recently from a defensive standpoint, and the January additions look to have seriously strengthened their back line.
Coady has been a brilliant addition, and they’ve not kept three clean sheets on the bounce, picking up seven points in the process to take themselves away from danger. Pompey have been unable to convert some good chances in back-to-back 1-0 defeats. Although they have posed more goal threat than two blanks suggest, I think they will find it tough again against Charlton - so BTTS feels like the best pick.

Correct score - Charlton 1-0 Portsmouth @ 6/1
I’m going to double down on my initial feelings about this game and back the home side to edge it, and keep another clean sheet in the process. The 1-0 win over Stoke felt massive, and looking at Jones’ full-time celebrations, he knows how crucial that three points could be.
Seven points clear of the bottom three, Charlton should be able to get over the line from here, and I think another solid home display is on the cards, with a clean sheet to boot. Seeing as I can’t see them tearing Pompey apart, I will back a 1-0 on this occasion.
