Amorim out man utd

After a disappointing 1-1 draw at Elland Road against Leeds United on Sunday, Ruben Amorim's 14-month spell in charge of Manchester United came to an end just a day later.

Reports suggest that the club will make a permanent appointment in the summer, with former player Darren Fletcher in charge on an interim basis seemingly until a plan is in place. With that said, I've taken a look at the next Manchester United manager odds below.

Darren Fletcher @ 6/4

It has been confirmed that Fletcher will be in charge on an interim basis for the Red Devils, and the former midfielder will be hoping his temporary spell develops in a similar vein to that of his old teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose impressive run as caretaker boss in 2018/19 landed him the permanent job.

Fletcher is currently the coach of United's under-18s side and enjoyed a prolific playing career at Old Trafford, graduating through the academy before making 342 appearances for the Red Devils, and lifting 13 major trophies during his time there.

Enzo Maresca @ 2/1

Maresca was relieved of his duties at Chelsea on New Year's Day following tensions with the club's owners, and may be tempted by the job at Old Trafford.

However, reports suggest he could be in line to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City if the Spaniard decides to call time on his reign at the Etihad, so I'd be surprised to see him in the United dugout come the start of next season.

Oliver Glasner @ 4/1

The Crystal Palace boss is out of contract at the end of the season and has worked wonders at Selhurst Park, lifting the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Eagles.

The Austrian has also guided Palace into Europe for the first time in their history and it's easy to see why he's been linked with one of the most high-profile jobs in Europe.

Michael Carrick @ 10/1

A name that needs no introduction to the United faithful, Michael Carrick enjoyed a fruitful 12-year playing career at the Theatre of Dreams.

Carrick has already stepped into the Old Trafford dugout - he served as part of the coaching staff during Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer's tenures as manager, and he was named caretaker manager after the latter's departure in 2021.

The former United midfielder has since enjoyed a decent spell in charge of Middlesbrough, where he guided the Riverside club to the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs and EFL Cup, before parting ways last summer.

Gareth Southgate @ 10/1

Gareth Southgate has been out of work since leaving the England job after Euro 2024, and actually ruled himself out of the running for the United gig after Erik ten Hag was dismissed.

Nevertheless, the speculation has remained, and Southgate is said to be admired by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Many laud Southgate for the culture he created during his time with England, but United is a different beast altogether.

Xavi @ 12/1

Barcelona icon Xavi Hernandez is another name that has been linked to the top job at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has been out of work after losing his job in charge of his boyhood club in May 2024 having guided them to a La Liga title in 2023. Something to note, perhaps, is that Xavi hasn't coached in Europe outside of Spain.

Interestingly, the Spanish maestro made his Champions League debut at Old Trafford against United in 1998.

Kieran McKenna @ 14/1

McKenna was also part of the coaching staff under Mourinho and Solskjaer - just like Carrick - before taking the Ipswich Town job in 2021. There, the young coach has received plaudits for his work at Portman Road, leading them to consecutive promotions before their demotion from the Premier League last May.

United reportedly met with McKenna in 2024 when the club where deciding whether to stick or twist with Ten Hag, and the Northern Irishman has previously been linked with the Chelsea job.
