Real Madrid are back at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday, following a run of six successive away fixtures in all competitions. They're looking to build on a strong midweek display when they take on Celta Vigo.

Following three straight draws in La Liga, there was pressure on Xabi Alonso's side to deliver a better performance, and three points when they travelled to Bilbao to take on Athletic Club. In a fixture they lost one year ago, Los Blancos did stand up on this occasion and produced one of their best showings of the season in a 3-0 victory.

Their set-up hinted at a change in approach from Alonso following a number of underwhelming displays. He went with a 4-4-2 system, with his defenders frequently playing long balls for Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior to run onto.

Against what was an unimpressive Athletic side, they had plenty of joy on that front, with Mbappé thriving again with two goals and an assist. Trent Alexander-Arnold set up one of the goals in one of his best performances in a Madrid shirt, but it was cruelly cut short by another injury that looks set to rule him out until February.

That result might just have spared Los Blancos a frosty welcome from the Bernabéu faithful this weekend. Thanks to some unusual scheduling, over a month has passed since they last played at home, and it was just one win in five fixtures in all competitions prior to the victory at San Mamés.

Real Madrid have won all of their eight home games this season. They've also won all of their last six home matches against Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Clashes between these clubs are normally watchable affairs. Celta have already visited the Bernabéu twice in 2025. They went down to a 5-2 defeat in the Copa del Rey in January, but only after extra time. The Galicians also suffered a 3-2 loss in the league in May.

With Claudio Giráldez at the helm, they do usually look to take the game to even the best teams. After a slow start to the campaign, they were on a five-game winning streak in all competitions prior to a 4-2 loss against Barcelona just before the November international break.

Celta returned from a fortnight off to win 1-0 at Alavés, but they've struggled in their last three matches. A 3-2 Europa League defeat in Bulgaria against Ludogorets was followed by a late 1-0 home loss against Espanyol last weekend. They also only limped through on penalties against fourth-tier Sant Andreu in the Copa del Rey in midweek.

Os Celestes have been La Liga's draw specialists, with half of their games this season finishing 1-1. Borja Iglesias enjoyed a good run of form in front of goal earlier in the campaign, but the Spain international has been less convincing of late, and no other attacking players have really stepped up to offer a consistent threat.

Team News:

Real Madrid are again missing their two right-backs as a result of Alexander-Arnold's latest injury, with Dani Carvajal also sidelined until the new year. Fede Valverde may again need to fill in.

Ferland Mendy is also out, while the hosts have additional injury doubts over David Alaba, Eduardo Camavinga and Dean Huijsen. Arda Güler and Dani Ceballos may rotate into the midfield, while Rodrygo is an option if Alonso decides to rest Vinícius.

Rotation is the norm from match to match at Celta Vigo, who have one of the deepest squads in the division. Most of their midweek cup starters will drop out here, with Giráldez in a position to pick from his full quota of midfield and attacking options.

However, the visitors are missing centre-back Joseph Aidoo to an injury, while wing-back Mihailo Ristić is also a fitness doubt after picking up a knock on Thursday night.

Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo Predicted Lineups

  • Real Madrid: Courtois, Asencio, Militao, Rudiger, Carreras, Guler, Valverde, Tchouameni, Bellingham, Vinicius, Mbappe
  • Celta Vigo: Radu, Alonso, Starfelt, J. Rodríguez, Rueda, D. Rodríguez, Moriba, Carreira, Zaragoza, Iglesias, Aspas

Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo Odds

with another victory at the Bernabéu. The Draw is priced at 5/1, while you can back Celta Vigo to win at 17/2.

You can back the hosts to boss the game by winning both halves at 7/5. They are also available at 9/4 to score over 3.5 goals, while Madrid are on offer at 13/10 to win the match to nil.

If you're expecting the visitors to at least get on the scoresheet, Both teams to score is priced at 4/6. You can also back Draw or Celta at 11/10 in the First Half Double Chance market if you fancy their chances of at least holding firm until the interval.

Mbappé leads the way as the 15/8 favourite to score first. You can also back the Frenchman to score and assist a goal at 5/1, a winning bet earlier this week in Bilbao.

Alternative options in the Anytime Goalscorer market include Jude Bellingham at 13/10, and Vinícius at 1/1. For the visitors, Iglesias is priced at 2/1, while veteran forward Iago Aspas is on offer at 11/4.

Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo Stats

  • Both sides average over 18 yards per shot at 18.3 and 18.4 respectively. Only Rayo (19.3) and Getafe (19.4) are longer.
  • Real Madrid have been awarded the most penalties in La Liga this season with five.
  • Kylian Mbappe (66) has taken 16 more shots than the next most in La Liga (50 - Lamine Yamal).

Bet 1 - Real Madrid to score over 2.5 goals & Kylian Mbappé to score anytime @ 21/20

Celta are not the kind of side that will simply look to park the bus and play for a point at the Bernabéu. They'll try to commit players forward when the possibility arises, and that may help to create scoring opportunities for the hosts.

The Galicians have let in 19 goals across their last five visits to this ground. They've also only kept one clean sheet all season in La Liga, so this should be another good day for the Real Madrid attack, which is being spearheaded by Mbappé.

The 26-year-old has scored 25 goals in 20 appearances for his club this term. That includes seven goals in his last three games alone. Given that, I'm using the Bet Builder to back Real Madrid to score over 2.5 goals and Mbappé to score anytime at 21/20.

Bet 2 - Real Madrid to win & Both teams to score @ 11/8

Since a surprise 2-0 home defeat against Getafe on the opening day of the season, Celta Vigo have only failed to score in one of their 20 competitive matches. While none of their forwards are scoring consistently, they do have many different attacking options, with Bryan Zaragoza one player who should ask questions on the break with his pace.

With Real Madrid still hampered by a number of defensive injury issues, the visitors should have moments when they find space and create chances. However, they'll find it very difficult to keep Mbappé quiet for 90 minutes. Therefore, I'm backing Real Madrid to win and Both teams to score at 11/8.
