Mainz 05 will look to turn their Bundesliga fortunes around on Friday (19:30 GMT, BBC iPlayer) when they host Borussia Monchengladbach at Mewa Arena. The hosts have won just one of their opening 12 fixtures as they sit bottom of the table.

Gladbach are unbeaten in their last four league games heading into this clash. My Mainz 05 vs Borussia Monchengladbach predictions can be found below, as well as the latest match odds and team news.

Team News

Mainz are missing Dominik Kohr and Paul Nebel due to suspension.

In the treatment room are Robin Zentner, Nadiem Amiri (both groin), Anthony Caci (tendon), Maxim Dal, Niklas Tauer (both ACL) and Arnaud Nordin (muscle), which is not helping the hosts' current situation.

Football Odds

Gladbach winger Nathan N'Goumou is still out of action with a ruptured Achilles which he suffered back in April.

Boss Eugen Polanski made changes in midweek that didn't pay off as his side were knocked out of the DBF-Pokal by St. Pauli. A few of the key players will be well-rested for this trip as they look to keep building momentum in the Bundesliga.

Tim Kleindienst will be hoping to feature from the first whistle, but after his start to the season was halted by injury, he may have to settle for a spot on the bench again. The likes of Rocco Reitz and Marvin Friedrich should be restored to the starting XI, however.

Today's Football Fixtures

Mainz 05 vs Borussia Monchengladbach Odds

Mainz have just the one win in the league this term but they are unbeaten on home soil in their last three outings in all competitions. They are 7/5 to come out on top here.

Their last two home games in the Bundesliga ended in draws, with the stalemate priced at 12/5.

Gladbach are 9/5 (implied probability of 35.7%) to collect the three points and they have won three of their past four matches in the top flight.

Over 2.5 goals has landed in their previous three away fixtures in all competitions, and this is available at 4/6 for Friday.

Mainz 05 vs Borussia Monchengladbach Stats

  • Gladbach have won their last two away league matches
  • Over 2.5 goals struck in both of them

Draw No Bet - Borussia Monchengladbach @ 1/1

Gladbach's midweek cup exit was surprising but I suppose that can happen when a team undergoes a few changes. Boss Eugen Polanski will hope that it isn't going to have an effect on his players' league form, which has been ticking along nicely in recent weeks.

Die Fohlen have the chance to get back to winning ways straight away and it comes in the form of Mainz, who are rooted to the bottom of the table. The hosts' quick decline is staggering as at one point last season they were pushing for a Uefa Champions League spot.

Their form deteriorated and ended up in the Uefa Conference League this term. It seems as though European football, as well as their injury crisis, is playing a huge part in their struggles at the moment.

That being said, they have managed to draw their last two league games at home, so this will by no means be routine for Gladbach, who themselves were struggling not so long ago.

I think the visitors' season can continue to improve but this will be a tough test for them. I think covering them in the draw no bet market is the most sensible play on Friday.

Away Team Total Goals - Over 1.5 @ 6/5

I think this game can produce goals, particularly as Mainz have one of the worst defensive records in the division with 23 goals conceded. Ten of them have come at home. There have been just two occasions when opponents have scored more than once against them at Mew Arena and they were Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

I think Gladbach can be the next team to be added to the list because they have been having a lot of joy in front of goal in recent weeks. In their last three league games, Die Fohlen have scored at least three goals - and two of these fixtures have come on their travels.

Given their momentum, I think 6/5 is an attractive price to find the net at least twice on Friday night.
