Liechtenstein vs Wales Prediction: Bellamy’s boys target big win

Liechtenstein face Wales on Saturday (17:00 GMT, BBC Two), with Craig Bellamy’s team still in with a chance of qualifying automatically for the World Cup next summer. They sit four points behind Belgium and three behind North Macedonia, but will be targeting a play-off place given Belgium still have to host Liechtenstein.

Team News
Liechtenstein’s Jens Hofer will serve a one-man suspension having picked up too many yellow cards and the defender will be a big miss for his country. Nicolas Hasler will captain the team in midfield while Dennis Salanovic and Willy Pizzi are fighting for starts up front with Ferhat Saglam.
Ben Davies and Kieffer Moore are out of the Wales squad through injury, while Swansea City’s Ben Cabango has also withdrawn. That’s a blow for Bellamy given Moore’s good club form for Wrexham, so expect Mark Harris to be given the nod up front.
Moore’s clubmate Nathan Broadhead could also feature in the final third with Brennan Johnson, while Dan James has been handed a recall which is a boost for the side. Aaron Ramsey remains unavailable after his dog went missing in Mexico, but has joined up with the squad in an unofficial capacity. Joe Rodon should feature in defence with Chris Mepham, as Wales look for a big win.
Liechtenstein vs Wales Predicted Lineups
- Liechtenstein - Buchel; Malin, Meier, Goppel; N. Hasler, Luchinger, Sele, A. Hasler, Zund; Salanovic, Saglam.
- Wales - Darlow; Mepham, Rodon, Lawlor; Thomas, Ampadu, Cullen, Williams; Wilson, Johnson; Harris.
Liechtenstein are the massive underdogs for this game at 66/1, while Wales are 1/66 for the win. That gives the visitors an implied win probability of 98.5% while a draw can be backed at 18/1.
Over 2.5 goals is 2/9, BTTS is 10/3 and Harris is 3/1 to score first.
Liechtenstein vs Wales Stats
- Liechtenstein haven't scored in qualifying
- Liechtenstein have conceded 23 goals in six games
Wales -3 handicap @ 5/6
Liechtenstein are one of the worst team in Europe and this qualifying campaign has been brutal for them. They are yet to score a goal and have conceded 23 in six games so far, losing 3-0 to Wales in the reverse fixture.
I think this is the chance for Wales to build up some confidence and fire some goals in. There’s little pressure on this side and they should win this game comfortably, but there’s places up for grabs in their first XI and they are unlikely to take their foot off the gas. I’m expecting a big away win.

Brennan Johnson to score anytime @ 4/6
The value in this match is difficult to find, but I think backing Johnson to score anytime is sensible. He was dropped by Bellamy for the defeat to Belgium, but I believe he will come back into the XI here and prove his worth once again.
Johnson needs a game like this having scored four goals in 17 outings for Spurs this term. I think he will bounce back with a goal, given I expect the away side will score four or five times on Saturday.
