England vs ireland

Lee Carsley's reign as England manager comes to an end on Sunday evening when the Three Lions welcome the Republic of Ireland to Wembley for a Nations League clash (17:00, live on ITV).

The visitors will be looking for revenge after England were victorious when the sides met in Dublin in September. Read on for my England vs Republic of Ireland prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Harry Kane was particularly irked by the decisions of several key players to withdraw from the England squad, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Levi Colwill, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aaron Ramsdale all missing the victory over Greece.

Nevertheless, the Three Lions will still boast an exciting front line with the likes of Noni Madueke and Anthony Gordon looking to retain their places on Sunday.

Carsley has said that Kane will start at Wembley, while Liverpool's Curtis Jones put in an excellent performance on Thursday night and will be hoping to keep his place alongside Conor Gallagher in the engine room.

As for the visitors, Mark McGuinness missed the defeat to Greece due to injury but he has been ever-present for Luton Town since and returned to the squad against Finland, so he should feature here.

Jack Taylor remains in the treatment room, while Chiedozie Ogbene is out for the season.

England are favourites at 2/9, giving them an implied win probability of 81.8%, while Ireland are huge outsiders at 14/1 and the draw can be backed at 5/1.

Unsurprisingly, Kane leads the anytime goalscorer market at 5/6, followed by Dominic Solanke at 23/20, while Evan Ferguson is shortest-priced for the visitors at 11/2.

England to win to nil @ 8/11

England put in an impressive display against Greece and the Three Lions will want to send Carsley off on a high before Thomas Tuchel steps into the dugout next year.

Even with a depleted squad, the Three Lions made amends for the defeat against Greece in October, and they'll be confident of winning on Sunday and claiming promotion back to the top tier of the Nations League.

They cruised to a 2-0 victory over Heimir Hallgrimsson's side at the Aviva Stadium in September, thanks to goals from Jack Grealish and Declan Rice, and aside from bragging rights, the Boys in Green have very little to play for - they've already secured their League B/C play-offs.

Ireland haven't scored against England in any of their last three meetings, while they've also blanked in four of their last six away matches, so I'm backing an England victory to nil.

Harry Kane to score 2 or more @ 4/1

The England skipper had to settle for a place on the bench on Thursday night, and he's set to start on Sunday, despite Ollie Watkins getting on the scoresheet in Athens.

Kane has scored 17 goals in 16 appearances for Bayern Munich this season - and was recently named the Bundesliga's Player of the Month for October - and will be looking to end his Nations League campaign on a high.

The former Spurs marksman is 4/1 to score two or more on Sunday - he scored five braces last season, and has recorded four more this campaign.
