NAP of the Day: Third time lucky for 5/4 Kitty

Owen McMahon's NAP of the Day

After a frustrating run from the NAP of the Day who was too green to do himself justice at the business end of the race on Tuesday, I'm hoping for one better from Wednesday's selection.

Given the nod is a three-year-old filly who I hope, following an excellent effort last time out, can get off the mark at the third attempt.

Thirteen go to post for this fillies' maiden stakes over 1m3f, and I fancy Simon & Ed Crisford's KITTY FURNIVAL to come out on top.

The three-year-old daughter of Zarak was sold for €180,000 back in October 2022 but only ran once as a juvenile - although she showed plenty of promise amidst greenness in that Goodwood novice.

Despite finishing fourth in a field of just six, the Rabbah Racing-owned filly was only two lengths off the winner Heartfullofstars, who had the benefit of a run having come second in a warm maiden at Newmarket earlier that month.

That Goodwood form has depth to it too, with the runner-up Francophone and third-placed Our Golden One now rated 100 and 88 respectively.

After a subsequent break of 276 days, Kitty Furnival returned, up in trip to 1m2f at Leicester, and very almost got off the mark, going down by just a neck to William Haggas' promising Castle Cove.

That was a great run. The selection made most of the running but stuck to the task admirably when it got tough, making the eventual winner work extremely hard for his victory.

She ought to strip a lot fitter for that and racing back against her own sex should help too. I also think the trip will be right up her street, given how strongly she travelled the last day.

I fancy her to beat the six rivals with form already in the book, with her main threat coming from a handful of newcomers.

Al Haal and Inlet represent powerful connections and are, as we say, bred in the purple. They're dangerous, as is Zilfee for the Gosdens.

As a son of Sea The Stars out of Sadler's Wells mare Concentric, the latter is a half-sister to the legendary Enable, no less, and a full sibling to Derab, who reached a mark of 107 during his short career.

Substantial support for any of those three should be noted, but ultimately I'm banking on them struggling to reach the level of Kitty Furnival on their first day at school.

She can get off the mark at the third attempt.

Kitty Furnival to win the 17.40 Kempton at 5-4
