We finished the week strong with our Saturday and Sunday Naps coming home to give us some momentum heading into a brand-new week for our US Racing Tips column.

For Monday, we once more pick out our Nap of the Day and we also put up an each-way play at what should be decent odds from an Extra Place Race on the slate over at betfred.com...

US Racing Tips/Nap of the Day

  • Back Dontlookbackatall in the 21:20 at Philadelphia @ SP
  • Back Shoresy e/w in the 22:42 at Presque Isle Downs @ SP

Nap of the Day:

The weekend went well for us, with both our Naps coming home victorious to finish the week with three winners from six (with a non-runner thrown in).

Backing Bob Baffert three-year-old’s in soft landing spots is certainly a strategy I’ll continue to utilise as Dothraki and Relatable both came home, albeit not as comfortably as their connections would have expected. Still, a win is a win.

For Monday’s Nap of the Day, I’m looking at the co-feature at Parx (named as Philadelphia on betfred.com) where the favourite should be backed in the 21:20.

Dontlookbackatall has shipped in from New York having put up her fastest Equibase Speed Figure to date in winning the License Fee Stakes during the Belmont at the Big A meet early last month. This continued her outstanding form of winning or finishing second in eight straight races going back to the start of 2023.

One of the reasons my eyes are drawn towards him is Irad Ortiz Jr. has been booked to ride and the top jockey is coming over to Parx just for this mount. When you see such a situation arise, it shows that a jockey thinks very-highly of a horse and he feels as though there is a great chance of future success.

Couple that with the fact Christophe Clement is the trainer here, that is a fantastic combination on the turf and gives me every reason to be positive about her chances to make it three straight wins for us in this portion of the column.

This race hasn’t been priced-up as of the time of publication on betfred.com but looking at the US Pools, we’d be happy with around 6/4 to 8/5.

Extra Place Bet of the Day:

Only three races to pick from in this portion of our US Racing Tips column, where Betfred are paying out seven places rather than six for each-way bets.

We didn’t have a stellar week last time out, with none of our four runners who went hitting the board. We are looking to do significantly better this time around.

The horse I’m taking at decent odds to finish in the top three on Monday is Shoresy in the 22:42 at Presque Isle Downs. This four-year-old has competed three times at this track and has hit the board on all three occasions, including winning the past two.

The field today though does look a tad stronger than on those occasions, with the very interesting Mille Dreams taking to the all-weather for the first time on the back of breaking her Maiden on the turf last time out at Tampa Bay Downs.

Teshima is also one to watch but Shoresy is a lightly-raced filly who has shown plenty on this track before and if we get the 6/1 or so that I would expect when the race is priced-up on betfred.com, there is value with an each-way play with paying out for that extra place.
