A non-runner and a poor showing from Waterloo Rose on Friday really didn't send us into the weekend on a high for our US Racing Tips column.

We pick out three Naps across the weekend and they all come from Los Alamitos Race Course where Bob Baffert is sending out some interesting horses that have great chances as we pick out our Nap of the Day in the US...

US Racing Tips

  • Back Dothraki in the 00:04 at Los Alamitos Race Course @ SP
  • Back Cowboy Mike in the 01:04 at Los Alamitos Race Course @ SP
  • Back Relatable in the 00:04 (Monday Morning) at Los Alamitos Race Course @ SP

Saturday Nap of the Day:

Whenever you see Bob Baffert send a three-year-old for their debut to Los Alamitos, you sit up and take notice and that is exactly what we have this weekend in this short eight-day meet for the County Fair.

He has four entries across the cards this weekend and the two first-timers are my Naps in the firm belief that there is a reason he’s sending them to the meet.

First of all in the 00:04 on Saturday night/Sunday morning, we get to see Dothraki. This three-year-old was sired by the legendary Into Mischief and has been putting in stellar workout times at Santa Anita, dipping below a minute in three straight breezes going five-furlongs.

This compares to 1m 01s on his first appearance at that distance at the track back in early May. His speed seems to be improving week-by-week and this looks like a very soft landing spot for him, with his primary competition coming from stable-mate Marsh Creek and Schwarzmeier, both of whom have raced and failed to break their Maidens first-time out.

We are unlikely to get tremendous odds and anything around 1/1 would probably be fair when the market gets priced-up by the traders here at Betfred.

I also like the look of the third Baffert horse on Saturday’s card, Cowboy Mike. He’s been supplemented into the Bertrando Stakes (01:04) and has won four of his past eight starts and being put into a State Bred race is a step-down from the competition he’s been facing at Santa Anita and Del Mar recently.

Every chance to give the trainer two wins from two on Saturday and I'd be expecting a better price here, best part of 2/1.

Sunday Nap of the Day:

On Saturday, we went with a three-year-old colt from Baffert’s stable and for Sunday, it is a filly of the same age.

I’m plumping for Relatable in the 00:04, who like Dothraki above, has been showing excellent speed in her workout runs at Santa Anita. Sired by another fine horse in Arrogate, the bloodlines are strong with this one and all indicators are that she could be a very solid horse who can have a strong second-half to 2024.

This isn’t the deepest field and once more, it feels like a relatively soft landing spot. I’m not expecting a great price but I do feel like she’s the best chance of a winner across the US on Sunday.

At the time of writing, this race has yet to be carded up on Betfred but based on the US Pools, we are likely to get around 9/5 and I'd happily take that all day long.
