Peterborough United host Oxford United in a bid to reach Wembley on Wednesday night (20:00), looking to overturn a one-goal deficit after a close encounter in the first leg. Elliot Moore’s goal was enough to secure a 1-0 win for the U’s, and they will be hopeful of defending their precious lead on the road.

With the entire season on the line, below you can find my Peterborough vs Oxford prediction, with the tantalising prize of Wembley within touching distance for both.

Peterborough vs Oxford Betting Tips

  • Peterborough to win -1 @ 11/4
  • #PickYourPunt - Randall, Mason-Clark and Poku to score @ 50/1

Team News

Given there has only been five days in between these two fixtures, we may not see too many changes for the two sides. Peterborough may put Ricky Jade-Jones back into the XI to lead the line from the start after he came off the bench in the first leg, on his return from a minor knock. That means Malik Mothersille is likely to drop to the bench, while I’d also expect Kwame Poku to come into the team on the right wing.

Oxford may name an unchanged line-up, given they kept Posh at bay in the first leg. Another clean sheet would send them to Wembley, so Josh McEachran is a potential option to come into the middle of the park, after he came off the bench in the 1-0 win.

Match Odds

Peterborough are 21/20 to win this game in 90 minutes, while an Oxford victory is priced at 11/5. That gives the home side a win probability of 48%, while a draw can be backed at 3/1. BTTS is 8/15 and over 2.5 goals is 8/13

Peterborough to win -1 @ 11/4

This is a really tough semi-final to predict. Oxford were impressive in the first leg and are a top team under Des Buckingham, but I just really fancy this Posh side on home soil. We saw in last season’s play-offs how they dismantled Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 at home (let’s forget about the second leg disaster), and I think their attacking talents could put on one hell of a show at London Road.

Peterborough beat Oxford 3-0 at home back in December and given they need to win by two goals to turn this around, I think they can get the job done in 90 minutes. I like Oxford, but the last 25 minutes of the first leg saw Posh dominate, and I think they will create enough chances to turn this around.

Let’s go big. I think Peterborough will score at least three goals in this one, and they will have the bit between their teeth as they look to tear Oxford apart. Interestingly, this season they have shared the goals around their front line, with Ephron Mason-Clark the top scorer with 16.

They’ve got four others in double figures and are the top scorers in the division with a whopping 89 goals scored. I think we can have some fun with this and back three of their key attacking figures to find the net. Signed by Coventry in January, Mason-Clark will want his final Peterborough game to come at Wembley, and he can add to his impressive goal haul from the left-hand side.

Meanwhile, Poku has 11 goals to his name and I think he will start the game having impressed off the bench in the first leg. Those two wide players love to get their shots away and I think both can find the net. We can make this bet a whopping 50/1 shot by adding attacking midfielder Joel Randall into the mix.

He has now scored 12 goals this season to go with his 10 assists, and scored two across the final two league games of the regular season. A dangerous attacking player, he could also find the net here. Given they share the goals around, one for each of Randall, Mason-Clark and Poku, isn’t as crazy as it sounds.
