A 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford in midweek saw Manchester United draw level on points with the north-east side in the race for Europe, but the Red Devils must better the Magpies' result on Sunday if they wish to finish above them by the end of play.

Brighton & Hove Albion provide the opposition for Erik ten Hag's side at the Amex Stadium on Sunday (KO, 16:00), with the Seagulls needing to match AFC Bournemouth's result to secure their place in the top half of the Premier League. Below you can find my Brighton vs Man United prediction and read up on all the latest team news heading into this clash on the south coast.

Brighton vs Man United Betting Tips

  • Over 4.5 goals @ 13/8
  • Bruno Fernandes anytime goalscorer @ 21/10

Team News

Brighton's treatment room has been one of the busiest in the Premier League this season, and the likes of Pervis Estupinan, Solly March, James Milner, Kaoru Mitoma and Evan Ferguson aren't expected out of there before the campaign's conclusion.

Joel Veltman could return after missing Wednesday's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, however, and we could see starts for the likes of Carlos Baleba, Valentin Barco, Danny Welbeck and the departing Adam Lallana.

Man United are hopeful that centre-backs Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire will return for next weekend's FA Cup final against Manchester City, but Sunday's game will come too soon for the trio.

Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are others expected to miss out again, with the latter's club season potentially over, while Anthony Martial won't be able to make a farewell appearance.

Lisandro Martinez, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford were second-half substitutes in midweek and are in contention to start at the Amex, though Amad is one player who will hope to keep his starting spot after scoring and registering an assist against Newcastle.

Brighton have won just one of their last nine games but are 11/10 favourites to record a fifth successive Premier League victory over Man United, giving the hosts an implied win probability of 47.6%. The visitors can be backed at 21/10, or a 32.3% chance, while the draw is available at 3/1.

Both teams found the net in Brighton's 3-1 win at Old Trafford in September, and it's 2/7 for that to land again, or 5/2 for BTTS - No.

Ex-Man United striker Welbeck opened the scoring in the reverse fixture and is 13/2 to do so again, or 8/5 just to score any time.

Over 4.5 goals @ 13/8

Sunday's game really could end in any scoreline. It pits two leaky defences against each other - Brighton have shipped 60 Premier League goals this season, with Man United just two behind on 58.

There's still a lot for Man United to play for as they look to bring European football back to Old Trafford next term, so they have to be going for the win. Their games are usually full of goals anyway - seven of their last nine in all competitions have seen at least four goals scored - but their likely need to win on Sunday, coupled with a contest against an open Brighton side, should make for even more entertaining viewership.

Over 4.5 goals has landed in three of their last six matches, and five of their last 11.

Eight of Brighton's 37 Premier League outings so far have seen at least five goals scored, but they have struggled at the top end of the pitch in recent months, failing to strike more than once in each of their last 15 games.

Nonetheless, I expect them to serve their supporters up with some goals on Sunday as they go in search of a top-10 finish. They hit three at Old Trafford the last time these sides met in September, and beat the Red Devils 4-0 at the Amex in May 2022.

Over 4.5 total goals in Brighton vs Man United at 13-8

Bruno Fernandes anytime goalscorer @ 21/10

In my opinion, the value pick in the anytime goalscorer market is Man United captain Fernandes, who returned from a two-game absence to play 90 minutes on Wednesday before being taken off in the closing stages.

Prior to his injury, Fernandes had struck in six out of his last nine club matches, scoring eight times in that run, which included braces against Sheffield United and Bournemouth.

Brighton are among the Portugal international's favourite opponents, as he has netted four goals in eight Premier League appearances against them, albeit the most recent one was in February 2022.

The Seagulls have conceded six penalties in the league this season, and with Fernandes being United's designated penalty-taker, he would be at the front of the queue if Brighton were to commit another sin inside their own penalty box.
