Leeds vs Blackburn Prediction: Home side to get back on track

“Leeds are falling apart, again”.

The chant from the Sunderland away end was heard loud and clear around Elland Road as the hosts blew their opportunity to go back to the top of the league, with a 0-0 draw. That stalemate followed up a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Coventry, and Daniel Farke’s side are stuttering - along with their promotion rivals.

Fortunately for Leeds, neither Leicester or Ipswich won in midweek, but promotion is no longer in their hands. They now sit one point behind both teams, while the Foxes are top of the table and boast a game in hand. They simply have to return to winning ways against a Blackburn team who are scrambling to secure their Championship safety. Below you can find my Leeds vs Blackburn prediction, in this massive game at both ends of the table.

Leeds vs Blackburn Tips

  • Leeds to win to nil @ 23/20
  • Piroe and Summerville to score @ 7/2

Team News

Farke is likely to make changes for this one as for the second successive game, Leeds put in a tepid attacking display. Expect Joel Piroe to come in for the misfiring Patrick Bamford, while Wilfried Gnonto could also start in place of Dan James. Mateo Joseph brings something different to the side and would be a popular inclusion, while Glen Kamara could come out of the team.

Blackburn were hammered 5-0 in midweek, so expect John Eustace to make drastic changes. Dom Hyam and Kyle McFadzean were both poor at the back as Rovers put in a dismal showing at Ashton Gate. Ryan Hedges and Arnór Sigurðsson are out for the season.

Match Odds

Leeds are the clear favourites to win this game, priced at 3/10 for the win, while Blackburn are available at 17/2. It means the hosts have an implied win probability of 76%, while a draw is available at 9/2. If you fancy goals, BTTS is 10/11 and over 2.5 goals is 4/7

Leeds to win to nil @ 23/20

We have to back the home side to win this game, and I’m happy to choose them to win to nil as my first pick. They may not have won either of their last two games, but both Sunderland and Coventry are far superior to Rovers this term, and the away side are in a whole heap of trouble.

They didn’t have any sort of defensive rigidity against Bristol City, and they are going to be penned in by this vibrant Leeds attack. Farke will have a point to prove and with some changes they should be able to take Rovers apart. It may seem risky to pick Leeds to win to nil given Blackburn have the league’s top goalscorer Sammie Szmodics in their ranks - but they haven’t scored in four of their last five matches.

The five-goal haul they got against Sunderland was clearly a complete one-off, and they are likely to struggle to find the net at Elland Road. It’s a worrying time to be a Blackburn fan.

Piroe and Summerville to score @ 7/2

I want to back a couple of Leeds United goalscorers here, as I think we could see a big scoreline in favour of the home side. My two picks are Crysencio Summerville and Joel Piroe, both of whom have shown a keen eye for goal this season.

Leeds were a better team when Piroe was starting, and he scored off the bench against Coventry so I expect him to come into the team with good effect here. Meanwhile, Summerville is the finest wide player in the league, guaranteed to start, and has scored 17 league goals this season.
