Ipswich Town are nearly there. After a 2-1 win over Coventry in midweek, the Tractor Boys are now just one point away from securing Premier League football. It would mark the most remarkable rise, as a club that were 15th in League One just over two years ago, are set to record a double-promotion, in the highest-quality Championship season we have ever seen.

The final hurdle comes in the form of Huddersfield Town, who are already relegated, and visit Portman Road on Saturday lunchtime, with kick-off at 12.30. With the game live on Sky Sports and the whole world watching, we could see one hell of a party in East Anglia. Below you can find my Ipswich vs Huddersfield prediction.

Ipswich vs Huddersfield Betting Tips

  • Ipswich to score over 3.5 goals @ 5/2
  • Ipswich 5-0 @ 22/1 & Ipswich 6-0 @ 50/1

Team News

Leif Davis made a surprise start for Ipswich in midweek at the CBS Arena having rolled his ankle against Hull, and the left-back is now set to start again for Kieran McKenna. Conor Chaplin was left on the bench against Coventry but could come back in here, while Kieffer Moore scored the vital opener in that 2-1 win, and will continue up front. Fortunately, Town have no major injury issues heading into the final day.

Ollie Turton and Rhys Healey both played longer than they should have in the 1-1 draw with Birmingham according to Andre Breitenreiter, while he has also questioned the desire of some of his players. We could see several changes here from Huddersfield, as they plan for next season in League One. Youngsters Tom Iorpenda and Ben Jackson could come into the side with that in mind.

Match Odds

Ipswich Town are the heavy favourites here, priced at 2/9 to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 81%. Huddersfield are 9/1 for the win and a draw is priced at 9/2 for this final day clash. If goals are on your mind, BTTS is 10/11 and over 2.5 goals is 4/9

Ipswich to score over 3.5 goals @ 5/2

Ipswich are going to win this game and win it well. They have been so exceptional this season that one point on the final day is a mere formality, but the reality is they should absolutely batter this miserable Huddersfield team. With Breitenreiter likely to make changes, and a carnival atmosphere, I’m expecting the home side to come out all guns blazing.

When they needed to beat Exeter to secure promotion from the third tier, they scored five goals in the first 32 minutes on the way to a 6-0 victory. It was a celebration of everything brilliant about Ipswich, and I expect to see something similar here. They can easily score four goals against a defence that has conceded 75 goals this term already.

Ipswich 5-0 @ 22/1 & Ipswich 6-0 @ 50/1

I really fancy a repeat of that Exeter performance, which is why it makes sense in my eyes to pick out two big home wins. Unfortunately for Leeds fans, I don’t think we are going to get any last-day drama at Portman Road, and instead they are going to celebrate in style with a massive scoreline.

The Terriers are simply no match for this Ipswich side and they should be on the end of a hiding. The Tractor Boys should be able to win to nil, with the 5-0 and 6-0 scorelines offering massive value at 22/1 and 50/1 respectively. A small wager on each is worth a punt, given the way I believe this game will go.

Ipswich6-0
