The final day of the Championship season, one of the most glorious days in the football calendar, has arrived. On Saturday at 12:30, 12 fixtures will begin simultaneously, and the fate of clubs up and down the country will be decided.

There’s still one automatic place, two play-off spots and one relegation place to be decided on what should be an enthralling final day. Will Birmingham City escape the drop? Will Ipswich Town secure their long-awaited return to the top flight? These questions, and many more, will be answered on Saturday May 4. Below you can find my Championship Accumulator Tips, for the final time this season.

Championship Accumulator Tips - Saturday, May 4

  • Ipswich to score over 2.5 goals vs Huddersfield @ 10/11

Ipswich to score over 2.5 goals vs Huddersfield @ 10/11

Let’s dive straight into it. Ipswich need just one point to secure their promotion to the top flight after over two decades away. Their win over Coventry was impressive and now they just need to avoid defeat against all-but-relegated Huddersfield Town on the final day. But playing for draws isn’t how this Ipswich team rolls.

In a similar situation against Exeter in League One, they scored five goals in 32 minutes and steamrolled the Grecians 6-0. This will be a party at Portman Road, and Huddersfield, in preparation for League 1 next term, could make several changes. I’m expecting another massive home win, and this selection is relatively safe, backing the top scorers in the league to add at least three to their tally of 90.

QPR to beat Coventry @ 15/8

An in-form team takes on one severely out of form at the CBS arena as Marti Cifuentes’ rejuvenated R's takes on the Sky Blues. Coventry are without a win in their last five games, and the end of this season cannot come quickly enough. Since their Wembley heartbreak, their players have looked shattered, and they are picking up injuries left, right and centre.

Jake Bidwell is likely to have to fill in at centre-half, while academy prospects such as 17-year-old Aidan Dausch may be handed more minutes. Meanwhile QPR battered Leeds 4-0 on Friday, have won two in a row and are now, improbably, well clear of relegation. They can secure another win on the final day at a big price.

Sheff Wed to beat Sunderland @ 6/4

Sheffield Wednesday are flying right now. Another side that looked destined for League 1 in the first half of the season have been saved by the arrival of a promising young coach. Danny Rohl is one of the finest managers in the division and Wednesday will be desperate to keep hold of him over the summer.

The Owls still have work to do, with a point needed on the final day to secure survival, but with the way they have been playing, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Unbeaten in their last five and having won their last two away games, they travel to Sunderland who are utterly miserable right now. They have scored just one goals in their last five outings and are unlikely to be able to finish the season with a flourish. Away win.

Hull to beat Plymouth @ 1/1

Hull need to win to keep their play-off hopes alive, and against a Plymouth side who are feeling the pressure of a relegation scrap, I believe they will get the three points they need. Argyle are far better at home, but I think Hull’s vibrant attack, with Fabio Carvalho and Jadon Philogene at full tilt, will be able to tear apart their fragile defence.

I also think if results start to go against them, or they concede early, the nervousness of the home fans may actually prove to be a hindrance to Plymouth, rather than a help. There’s a whole lot on the line here, but I think Liam Rosenior’s men will come out on top.
