Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first defeat of the season on Monday night as they played out a chaotic London derby with Chelsea.

Ultimately, it ended with a 4-1 defeat, two red cards and two major injuries which will worry Ange Postecoglou heading into the weekend trip to Wolves. This one kicks off at 12:30 on Saturday, and below we have previewed the match.

Wolves vs Spurs Tips

  • BTTS @ 8/15
  • Wolves to win and BTTS @ 4/1

Team News

Gary O’Neil will be without Pedro Neto and Hugo Bueno here, as well as Joseph Hodge. There is hope that Neto will be fit to return after the international break, while the rest of the Wolves squad is fit to play.

Opposing manager Postecoglou has been left with a big defensive issue ahead of Saturday’s game. Both Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero were sent off, while the dependable Micky van de Ven was subbed off with a nasty looking hamstring injury. All three regular starters will miss this game, and Spurs also lost key man James Maddison in the first half. It’s unknown how serious that issue is, but the Australian manager will be forced into changes at Molineux.

Match Odds

Wolves are 11/5 to win this game, while Spurs are the favourites at 23/20. A draw is available at 5/2, BTTS is 8/15 and over 2.5 goals is 8/13.

BTTS @ 8/15

A short price, but the stats show that this should come in. Remarkably, both teams have now scored in the last nine games involving Wolves, as they struggle to find a clean sheet - but boast an awful lot of attacking quality. Their 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United last time out typified this, and against a strong Spurs attack, they are likely to concede again.

However, Postecoglou is going to have to name a makeshift back four in this one, and Wolves will fancy their chances at getting at it. The only game Wolves have failed to score in this season in all competitions was the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford and in that match, they had a hatful of chances. BTTS should come in here.

Wolves to win and BTTS @ 4/1

I’m really keen on BTTS for this match, for the reasons above, but I also believe there is value in backing the home side to win here. Gary O’Neil has impressed since taking charge and I believe his side can take advantage of Tottenham’s absentees. Maddison is such a key creator for Spurs that his absence will be felt, while a defence made up of Pedro Porro, Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjurg and Emerson Royal should have the Wolves attackers licking their lips.

4/1 feels like a big price given the current issues Tottenham face.
