Sion vs Lausanne-Sport Prediction: Newly-promoted side can find another win

Two sides who won their opening match of this season’s Swiss Super League meet at the Stade de Tourbillon on Saturday (17:00), as Sion host Lausanne-Sport. Lausanne will be looking for major improvement this term having only just avoided the relegation play-off last season, while Sion won promotion by winning the Swiss Challenge League, losing just three league matches. 

Now these sides will both hope for positivity this term, and below you can find my Sion vs Lausanne-Sport prediction.

This game is incredibly close to call, with Sion priced at 7/5 for the win, and Lausanne-Sport available at 8/5. A draw can be backed at 9/4, BTTS is 4/7 and over 2.5 goals is 4/6.

Team News

23-year-old duo Ilyas Chouaref and Dejan Djokic were both on the scoresheet for Sion in their opening match, and we can expect them to start again, as manager Didier Tholot continues with his 4-4-2 system. Gora Diouf and Joël Schmied will continue at the heart of defence, while Timothy Fayulu and the experienced Heinz Lindner are set to battle it out for the number one spot this term, with Fayulu starting the opener. 

Lausanne-Sport’s attackers had the perfect start against FC Basel, as each of their front three found the net in that 3-2 success. Expect Teddy Okou, Fousseni Diabaté and Mamadou Kaly Sene to all start again as they search for more goals. Meanwhile Alvyn Sanches is an extremely exciting prospect at number 10, while changes could be made at full-back, with Raoul Luca Giger and Morgan Poaty both being withdrawn in that opening match.

Based on what we have seen so far, this should be a cracking game, between two well-matched sides. Sion are coming up into this league with great momentum, and after that incredible victory away at Young Boys in their opening game, hopes are high that they could produce something special this season. 

Survival is their primary objective, but already it feels like they should be aiming higher than that, with their young and vibrant attack likely to cause problems. Chouaref and Djokic are a tasty front two, which should score goals throughout this season, but they did concede to the Swiss champions, and then also let in three in a follow-up friendly with Villarreal. 

Meanwhile, Lausanne-Sport’s 3-2 win over FC Basel was a thriller, as they scored three first-half goals against the Swiss giants. With the attacking quality on show, both teams should be able to find the net here.

Sion to win @ 7/5

I think the home side have real momentum heading into this campaign, having only lost three times during their title-winning season last term. They have an excellent home record, and will be tough to beat in 2024/25. To go to the champions and beat them on the opening day is a serious statement, even if Young Boys were reduced to 10 men in the second half. 

I just think that this Sion side will be able to ruffle a few feathers this term, and will want to make a serious impression on the top flight. Despite getting a win in their opener, I don’t see Lausanne-Sport competing in the top half of the table, so I’ll back a home win here.
