Mens australian open tennis trophy

The first Grand Slam of 2025 is upon us as tennis' elite head to Melbourne Park to battle it out for the Australian Open crown.

Jannik Sinner will be looking to retain his title after reigning supreme at last year's tournament to claim his maiden slam, following that up with the US Open title in September. However, his rival Carlos Alcaraz is aiming to become just the ninth player in the Open Era to complete the career grand slam by toppling the competition down under. Read on for my men's Australian Open predictions and the latest odds.

Men's Australian Open 2025 Betting Tips

  • Carlos Alcaraz @ 7/2
  • Taylor Fritz each-way @ 28/1

Men's Australian Open Odds

As mentioned in the introduction, Jannik Sinner is looking to win his second consecutive Australian Open, and unsurprisingly, he's the favourite in the outright market at 11/8 after securing two majors last year.

Alcaraz, who won the other two slams on offer in 2024, is second in the betting at 7/2, as the Spaniard looks to join the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in completing the career grand slam. Djokovic, the last man standing of the 'Big Three', isn't too far behind Alcaraz at 5/1, and of course has Andy Murray in his corner for this year's tournament, as he seeks an 11th triumph in Melbourne.

Daniil Medvedev, who lost in five sets against Sinner in last year's final, is 14/1 to go one better this year, while Alexander Zverev will be hoping to improve on 2024's semi-final exit at 10/1.

Britain's Jack Draper is an outside chance at 50/1 after reaching the semi-finals of the US Open last year, while hometown favourite Nick Kyrgios will make his Grand Slam return in Melbourne, having not played in a major since losing in the quarter-final stage of the 2022 US Open. The Australian is 100/1 to add the men's singles crown to his Australian Open men's doubles title.

Carlos Alcaraz @ 7/2

My first pick is a fairly obvious one in Alcaraz.

Last season was dominated by Sinner and Alcaraz, with both players winning two slams apiece, and 2025 could play out in a similar manner as Djokovic continues his decline.

The Spaniard is yet to advance past the quarter-final stage in four attempts, but I think he's worth backing at a slightly bigger price than the Italian, who has nothing to prove in Melbourne realistically.

The hard courts should suit Alcaraz, who has already shown versatility in his young career with wins at the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, and the doping allegations surrounding Sinner could potentially have a big impact on his game.

There's every chance Djokovic could prevail in Melbourne once again given his dominance at this tournament, but I feel that Alcaraz is one of the few talents on the ATP Tour who can go punch-for-punch with the Serbian, along with Sinner.

Alcaraz also holds the head-to-head advantage over Sinner, winning six encounters compared to the Italian's four, and has triumphed in each of the last three meetings between the pair.

Add in the prospect of securing a career grand slam at the age of 23, and I think Alcaraz represents a worthy outright pick.

Taylor Fritz each-way @ 28/1

Fritz enjoyed the best season of his career last year, reaching the final of the US Open, winning a doubles bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, and made the last-eight of the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

In addition, the 27-year-old won his seventh and eighth ATP titles as Fritz picked up trophies in Delray Beach and Eastbourne. The American also ended 2024 with a new career-high men's singles ranking of four.

As a big server, the lightning-quick hard courts of Melbourne suit Fritz's game, and he comes into the tournament in good form, beating Hubert Hurkacz in three sets to help USA claim the United Cup. I certainly think he's worth an each-way punt at 28/1.
