Sale vs Harlequins Prediction: Home comforts for Sharks

Neither Sale nor Harlequins are heading into 2026 in fantastic form but the Sharks can end the current year on a high with a Boxing Day victory.

Alex Sanderson has had several injury issues to contend with and his side sits seventh in the PREM standings following last Saturday's 47-21 defeat at Northampton. Quins lost their pre-Christmas' Big Game' fixture 40-14 at home to Bristol and with defeats in their last 10 on the road, it is tough to expect a positive result for them in Salford. Read on for my Sale vs Harlequins predictions.

Team News

Sale have been boosted by the return of three of their England stars, as prop Bevan Rodd and full-back Joe Carpeneter come into the side alongside fly-half George Ford.

Looshead prop James Harper and lock Hyron Andrews also start, and the bench is reinforced by centre Rekeiti Ma'asi-White and back-rower Sam Dugdale.

Harlequins have made two changes, with openside flanker Tom Lawday and right wing Rodrigo Isgro returning.

Lock Jonny Green, who signed a new contract earlier this week, is among the replacements alongside club captain Alex Dombrandt and Wales fly-half Jarrod Evans.

Sale vs Harlequins Odds

Sale are the heavy 1/5 favourites to win on Friday, with Harlequins 18/5 as they aim to make it 11th time lucky on the road, while the draw is 25/1.

The 3-way handicap mark is set at 11 points, with Sale -11 priced at 10/11.

Sale -14 @ 11/10

Quins' away woes are well documented but Sale's home form also hasn't been what it was.

The Sharks were unbeaten at home in the league from January 2024 to January 2025 and followed that defeat to Bath with five wins in a row.

However, they lost 27-26 to Exeter in November and started this month with a 26-21 loss to Glasgow in the Champions Cup.

An impressive 35-14 victory at Clermont reinvigorated their European campaign, but injuries again affected the Sharks at Northampton.

Sanderson has recalled an England trio, with Ford essential. Rob du Preez is an excellent player but lacks Ford's game management and the back-line looks far better balanced with the Englishman at first receiver and his South African colleague providing a second pair of playmaking hands at outside centre.

For Quins, who sit eighth, the season already feels like a write-off and the board needs to get busy working on pans for 2026-27.

Their away form is a significant issue and fuels the narrative that they are not tough enough to turn up when it matters, despite leading the PREM with 1105 tackles.

With a 27-10 win over Gloucester and 57-5 success over Newcastle in the bag already this season, the Sharks can complete the set against the bottom three and with plenty to spare.

Tom O'Flaherty anytime tryscorer @ 20/21

England's Tom Roebuck being absent has allowed Tom O'Flaherty to enjoy an extended run on Sale's right wing, and the 31-year-old is taking his chances.

Developed at Blackheath, O'Flaherty may be someone Quins missed out on, and he did the rounds in Wales before moving to Exeter and then Sale in 2022.

A solid club performer, he has crossed three times in the Sharks' last two games and can grab another score on Friday.
