Gloucester vs Saracens Prediction: Improving Cherry and Whites can show up Sarries

Gloucester's best performances have come at home this season and they could cause an upset against Saracens on Saturday. The Cherry and Whites have won their last three games at Kingsholm, including a 34-14 Champions Cup win over Castres on December 7. Gloucester's youngsters then pushed Munster close before the Irish province pulled away to a 31-3 victory but lost 45-14 at Leicester last Friday.

They have had eight days to prepare for this game against Saracens, who also rotated for their 28-23 Champions Cup defeat to the Sharks but floundered in last Saturday's 30-24 home loss to Exeter. An opening weekend 39-17 win at Newcastle is Sarries' only away league victory of the season and despite winning on their last three trips, they could come unstuck at Kingsholm.

Team News

Scrum-half Tomos Williams will captain Gloucester, fresh from this week's news that he will join Saracens in the summer.

Williams plays alongside fly-half Ross Byrne in the playmaking roles, while Hooker George Knowles is set for a PREM debut after being named on the bench.

Theo McFarland and Andy Onyeama-Christie both start in the back row for Saracens.

Captain Ivan Zyl partners Owen Farrell in the halves and Rotimi Segun starts on the right wing after being on the bench against Exeter.

Lucio Cinti also starts after being a late withdrawal from the Exeter match due to illness.

Gloucester to win @ 12/5

It has been an interesting few weeks for Gloucester. Williams' departure has been known for some time, and his move to Saracens was confirmed on Christmas Day.

However, the disappointment about his exit has been countered by news of academy product Dan Robson's return as a potential replacement and the arrivals of Wales co-captains Dewi Lake and Jac Morgan from next season.

George Skivington is trying to build something and Saracens' poor road record provides hope for Saturday's hosts.

Sarries start the round sixth in the table, 13 points better off than Gloucester and have won their last three trips to Kingsholm.

Things just aren't clicking, though, with Owen Farrell still bedding back in after his tough year in France with Racing.

The team has looked smoother since he moved from the centres to his preferred fly-half berth, but he only succeeded with one of his four attempts at goal against Exeter.

Opposite number Ross Byrne knocked over his two attempts in the Leicester defeat after being successful with all six kicks in the win over Castres.

That's a clear area of difference between the sides and Gloucester's improvement, especially at home, makes them worth backing.
