Betfred Big Winner: Punter hits £50k jackpot from £2 bet

Football club stalwart Ian Palmer has hit the jackpot - £50,000 to be precise - from a £2 wager at Betfred.

Father-of-three Ian, a self-confessed jack of all trades at amateur club Plymstock United in Devon, found himself in the money after his four numbers came up on the New York Lotto.

The Betfred customer opted for the numbers 1, 3, 14 and 28 that represent the dates his four grandchildren were born.

It'll be his grandchildren who benefit from 59-year-old Ian's good fortune as they, along with 11 other members of his extended family, are going on two holidays - one here in the UK and another in either Cyprus or Turkey.

"I'm in total shock," said the delivery driver, who lives in Plymouth near the ground of his beloved Plymstock who play in the Devon Football League.

He went on: "I spend a lot of time at the club sorting out the bingo, helping behind the bar, with the Colts junior team and even in the kitchen as we always serve chicken nuggets and chips free to every child who plays for us.

"I'm a bit of a jack of all trades at a club I've been associated with for 18 years now.

"To win so much at Betfred from such a small stake is remarkable. The grandchildren will benefit most, which is only right as the numbers are their birth dates.

"My ex-wife has an account with a rival bookie and in 2020 I thought it would be better if I switched to Betfred - and I'm so glad I did because now I am now celebrating the biggest win of my life."
