19:24 Gulfstream Park Race 4 – Boat's a Rockin (2) @ SP

Tap to Mischief (6) ran big in his first two career starts. He’s been absent since a below par effort in a deep race at Saratoga last summer. Interestingly, he was sold at the sales for only $40k since then. He is proven fresh but there is a doubt about him. Less so the well bred Thought Control (1). His maiden win on Tapeta was super fast. Maybe the dirt and six-and-a-half furlongs was against him last time out in March. He tries the turf for the first time. His dam had no problem with the surface switch. The rail drawn runner looks the horse to beat.

Fulanito (4) comes off two big efforts in a claimer and latterly a starter. He is likely to figure from the get-go. Banneker (7) may be pushing the pace along with him and Thought Control (1). He gets a class test after winning a claimer. The margin of three lengths suggests he can compete at a higher level.

My two against the field are Giant Teddy (8) and Boat's a Rockin (2). Giant Teddy (8) has speed. He did stalk the pace when narrowly beaten at this level last month. His wide draw should give his rider tactical options. However, slight preference is for Boat's a Rockin (2). He’s a nine-year-old and his best days are behind him. He still retains plenty of ability with a fourth in a starter event just over a week ago. The projected race flow here is better than last time. He should get plenty of speed to chase down.

Gulfstream 19:24 - Winner

21:35 Gulfstream Park Race 8 – Caura (2) @ SP

A few chances here. Canton (3) is definitely one of them. In her last start on dirt, she ran third in at today’s level. That race looked much stronger than this one. The first two ran well in stakes subsequently with the runner up taking a Grade 3. Key to her chances of getting seven furlongs may be the lead without too much pace pressure.

Tosca (7) and Winplaceandshow (8) may run with Canton (3) early on. Both fillies come off sharp efforts in state restricted conditions events. Tosca (7) ran second at Colonial Downs. Winplaceandshow (8) went one better here in late March. The third came back to win next time. The pair are players. So too is Don't Do It Lucy (4). One look is all it took for her to break her maiden here. There may be a lot more to come from her second time out, especially with another furlong to cover.

Caura (2) goes for low percentage connections. That and the fact she ships in from Tampa should help her price. She followed a maiden win over today’s distance with a fourth in a conditions event over a mile. Two of the three runners to race since have been winners. She should get a nice trip chasing down likely contested early fractions.

Gulfstream 21:35 - Winner
Caura

21:56 Churchill Downs Race 9 – Hot Property (9) @ SP

The Ortiz brothers ride two of the more likely winners. Irad is on Miracle Mark (1). He has been stuck on one career victory for a long time. In fairness, he’s been tackling much better competition. Last time, he finished third to a pair of talented horses in an allowance conditions event at Oaklawn. He looks a big player running first time for sale. Like him, Gethsemane (2) now races in blinkers. The mount of Jose Ortiz was claimed off a good second in a cheaper claimer at Keeneland last month. The slight cut back in distance may suit.

White Whale (6) and Hot Property (9) run for new trainers after placed efforts in claimers at Keeneland. This is the handler’s of White Whale (6) first ever runner. Hot Property (9) may be a safer proposition. He ran third in what a deep race for the level. With the prospect of speed to chase down, he has a chance of outfinishing this field. His trainer David Jacobson also claimed Admiral Hall (3) last time. He is only twice-raced and may improve off his four length maiden claiming winning form.

Show of Force (7) is a wild card in here. He’s been running in sprints on The Tapeta. He was far from disgraced in two much stronger races on dirt at this meet last year.

Churchill Downs 21:56 - Winner
Hot Property
