US Horse Racing Tips: Two to consider from Friday’s action

Paul Quigley, our resident US horse racing expert, is back with two tips to consider on Friday, coming from Ellis Park and Saratoga.

21:12 Ellis Park - True Passion @ SP

It can be argued the comebacking Mechaya (2) has the best form. She was a closing second in a deep allowance conditions event at Kentucky Downs last August. As well as her absence, five-and-a-half furlongs could be a tad short. My Sweetheart (7) and Lit Ship (11) may not be as talented but have form this year. The first named has a chance off a run at Gulfstream in February. Lit Ship (11) may improve off a comeback run at Churchill in June.

True Passion (6) and Briland (5) come a deep race at Churchill in late May. The first two finishers both came back to win. True Passion (6) ran the better to be third after a wide trip. She goes for a low profile but capable trainer so may be a bigger price than she should. She’s an unknown on turf but her handler has had some success with this move. Briland (5) was making her first start in 10 months so may have needed the run. She has worked well since and may be a different proposition second time back.

Twirling Claire (1) was a little disappointing running first time against winners. Her maiden winning form prior to that is contending form. Likewise Lucy McGe (8) who graduating nicely at Keeneland in April.

22:40 Saratoga - Goodall @ SP

The two class acts in this race have to prove their fitness. Both fillies disappointed in The Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies last November. Iron Orchard (2) looked to have a bright future prior to that, winning her first three starts.

Her best run was taking The Grade 1 Frizette at Aqueduct. She is working well for her comeback and is proven fresh and at Saratoga. That is also the case with Tommy Jo (5). Her best efforts last year came over six and seven furlongs. This in between distance should suit. She didn’t look to stay the extended mile in her final two starts as a two-year-old. Her trainer Todd Pletcher is unlikely to stay on the cold list at this meet for too much longer.

Goodall (10), Carmel Coast (3) and Mythical (7) ran one, two and three in a stake here last month. The near three length winner is likely to confirm the form. She looks as talented as any of these fillies and draws well. Mythical (7) did run below her Gulfstream form. She was a short-priced favourite then. Now she will be a playable price.

A Fine Chardonnay (9) has a chance off a Keeneland Grade 2 win in April. Sneaky Good (4) ran her close that day. She may be better over one turn than the extended mile she tried last time. The pair are price possibilities. So too are Peach Tie (6) and Tessellate (8). The pair fought out the finish in a Grade 3 at Laurel on Preakness Weekend.
