The market is likely to be dominated by California based gals. Sweet Azteca (6) beat class act Kopion in a Grade 2 over six furlongs in July. She backed that up with another graded stakes victory locally. She missed her prep race for this but has been working well.
Interestingly, Kopion may have been diverted to The Sprint against the boys as stablemate Tamara (4) is fancied for this. She faced a simple task in her prep race but did it well.
She's making up for lost time having had only two starts since The 2023 Breeders' Cup. The four year was only a nose away from being perfect in three previous starts at Del Mar.
Bob Baffert's pair Hope Road (8) and Richi (9) are other talented locally based runners. The first named shipped successfully to win a Grade 1 at Saratoga in August. Richi (9) is likely to improve cutting back from a mile. That is also the case with Baffert's other runner Splendora (2).
