US Horse Racing Tips: Three to watch on Thursday

Our US racing expert Paul Quigley is back to deliver his best bets from across the pond.

20:43 Horseshoe Indianapolis (Race 4) - Wedge @ SP

Only one of these two-year-olds has raced before. Sierra Power (2) faded badly on debut last month. He may improve second time out and now racing on blinkers. That said, the market is likely to gravitate towards the likely well meant debutants.

Mischief Mania (3) represents trainer Brad Cox. He has farmed these maidens with first time starters here in recent years. He’s been working well at Churchill Downs. The runner to fear.

Another Kentucky invader Wedge (8) may be worth siding with. He too has been working forwardly. A four-furlong drill from the gate at Keeneland last month suggests he is ready to fire. His trainer has a fine record with newcomers. Interestingly, his stakes winning dam was successful in her first ever race.

Some of the locally based trainers have interesting runners. Alejandro's Town (1) comes off a series of encouraging morning workouts.

Q's Topnotch (4) gets the services of an in demand 7lb claiming rider. Dreaming Perfect (6) goes for a trainer with a good record with debutants. King Arturo (5) worked fast in his last drill. His trainer has hit form lately. The market may be the best clue to their chances.

21:05 Belmont at The Big A (Race 7) - Dataman @ SP

This is a stakes race in all but name with many of this field having form at that level. Cugino (2) is one example.

He rounded out 2024 with a Grade 3 second and a stakes victory. This is his first start since December but he has been working forwardly. He is a player along with horse for course Big Everest (1). The seven-year-old made a fine first start of the year here last month. He is dangerous, especially if he makes the lead on his own. Exact Estimate (6) has some speed and may press him early.

He was made plenty of use of when ran down late at Tampa in April.

Forever Souper (5) ran too good to lose when a close third in a stake at Laurel last month. He was hung wide on both turns when beaten by Dataman (7) prior to that. His old rival may be a price after a troubled trip at Woodbine last month.

That was his first try on Tapeta. Now back on the turf, he has a shot at outfinishing his rivals.

Strong Quality (4) and Master Piece (9) have the back form to win this. Both come off shockers. The first named may rebound running first time as a gelding. Master Piece (8) may have needed his comeback.

21:14 Horseshoe Indianapolis (Race 5) - Me And Chili @ SP

Highest Memories (6) looks the runner to beat here.

He won four times in 2024 including a state bred stake over course and distance. The five-year-old improved second time back this term to run fifth in a deeper race than this one. Now he drops in class into a very winnable spot.

The only worry with him is his connections running him for sale for $10,000. With so much money to be won with an Indiana bred like him.

On paper, a stablemate of Highest Memories (6) is his biggest danger. Mansfield Tiger (3) is in sharp form. He followed up a second in a claimer by filling the same placing in a state bred contest.

He’s too sharp to ignore. Maybe Me and Chili (2) is the play at the likely odds here. He was a winner of a claimer sprinting three starts back. Late last month, he was a good fourth over a mile against fellow Indiana breds.

The race flow was against him last time. Not only is he back up in distance but may benefit from now getting professional handling. He may be worth a small wager.
