  • 22:44 Saratoga (Race 9) - Scylla @ SP

*odds will be posted closer to race time

21:10 Woodbine (Race 7) - Kehoe Beach @ SP

Kehoe Beach (4) a filly taking on the boys is the runner to beat on the class drop. She ran well in a deep Grade 1 at Saratoga last month. Prior to that, she ran third in another at Keeneland. Those races and her last two victories came over a mile. She did win her only start over seven furlongs by eight lengths. The one worry with the frontrunner is she appears to have only one way to run. Piper's Factor (6) could be a spoiler.

He set fast fractions before fading last time. Now ridden by veteran Pat Husbands, he may resort to more patient tactics. He has form including a stakes victory when ridden more patiently.

Northern Invader (1) has ran well in all three starts since he returned after a long absence. He ran second in a Grade 3 and fourth in a Grade 1. The five-year-old made the most of the class relief to win an allowance conditions event at Churchill in May. He has speed so cutting back a furlong shouldn’t be an issue. His rider may get a nice stalking trip from the rail.

Piper's Factor (6) is not the only locally based runner who can run big here. Cruden Bay (8) won this race last year. He’s not raced since August but did win first time back in 2024. If he is fit, he’s a big player with the prospect of speed to chase down. I'm A Gambler (10) may not be as quite as talented but his fitness is guaranteed. He is in fine form and has a super record at today’s distance.

Sky's Not Falling (3) probably needed the run when behind Twin City (7) on his comeback. He is a place chance off the pick of his form in stakes races last year.

21:12 Ellis Park (Race 8) - Banishing @ SP

Some of these have alternative engagements so this race may have a different look to it come post time. Nash (1) is the most notable of them. He ran a big speed figure when winning an allowance conditions event at Churchill last month.

That was in the slop but he has form on a dry footing. He should get speed to chase down. In contrast, Booth (4) is very dangerous if he can clear off early on. He rattled up a stakes four-timer at Oaklawn and Pimlico. His winning run came to an end when fourth in a Grade 3 at Churchill.

Durante (2) finished a close up third in the stake Booth (4) disappointed in. In doing so, he proved his upset victory in a stake prior to that was no fluke. Interestingly, his trainer David Jacobson has Banishing (3) entered so one of them may scratch.

He comes off a pair of solid efforts over a mile or more. Arguably his best effort this term was when second, beaten a neck in a Grade 1 at Churchill. That was the best race of its type run all year. If he repeats that run, he is likely to outfinish this group.

Champlin (11) gets back on his best surface of dirt. He has a chance off a second in a stake at Churchill in May. The likelihood is he gets a nice trip just behind the speedy Booth (4). He is an easier read than Here Mi Song (8). He won this race by open lengths last year. He’s looked a shadow of his former self in three starts in 2025.

If Banjo Chris (5) can repeat his win in the slop last time, he can go well at a price. Likewise Kavod (6) off the pick of his form at The Fair Grounds.

22:44 Saratoga (Race 9) - Scylla @ SP

Scylla (4) figures to be a worthy, short, priced favourite here. She has looked much improved since being cut back to one turn races. Her best effort last year was a length fourth in The Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.

She has ran well without winning in both starts this term. Last month over seven furlongs in a Grade 2 here, she was a well held second. The winner is a class act who scored in a very fast time. She did finished well clear of the third Jody's Pride (9). This in theory is the same level but she meets inferior rivals. The one worry is cutting back another furlong. She should get plenty of speed to chase down.

Jody's Pride (9) ran below her best when behind Scylla (4) last time. That ‘best’ was a Grade 2 victory at Aqueduct in May. It is possible her last run came a bit quick after that victory. She has worked well since and Flavien Prat now takes the ride. She is the obvious alternative to the favourite. Another at a likely bigger price is Benedetta (8).

She got back on a dry track and split a talented sprinters in a Grade 3 at Churchill last time. Her trainer Steve Asmussen has a fine strike rate with the few runners he’s had at this meet.

If she runs to near her best, the way Scylla (4) will likely be beaten if something gets the jump on her. R Disaster (2) is one such filly. She made short work of an overmatched field in a stake at Delaware last time.

There are other front end types in here such as Striker Has Dial (7). She won back to back allowance races in New York before running a fine second in a stake at Pimlico. Key scratches of the pace types would help their chances. Likewise Carmelina (5). She’s on a hat-trick after winning in lesser company at Parx. She did win an open stake last summer.

Zadorsky (3) has excelled in two starts over further in the slop in Kentucky. She has form on a dry track and is unexposed over today’s distance. Halina's Forte (1) may have needed her belated 2025 return. Interestingly, she won a stake on her only previous visit to Saratoga.
