US Horse Racing Tips: Two Friday picks from across the pond

Our Stateside expert, Paul Quigley, is back with Friday's US Horse Racing Tips, looking to land two wins from Belmont At The Big A.

Check out his two selections below, one starting at 21:42 (BST), and the other at 22:14 (BST).

21:54 Churchill Downs (Race 9) – Tetiaroa (7) @ SP

This looks wide open with contention running at least six or seven deep. Foie Gras (1) and Velvet Devil (9) ran second and fourth at this level over six and a half furlongs at Ellis Park last month. The first named ran if a slightly shorter distance would suit. Velvet Devil (9) was coming off a lay off since a maiden win in April. She may strip fitter second time back. They have claims along with No What Ifs (10) and Abitibi (12). That pair come off places in similar events.       

Trouble in Love (2) ran well in a stakes event at Oaklawn when last seen out in March. The booking of Irad Ortiz suggests she is live on her comeback. His brother Jose rides the twice-raced Tetiaroa (7). She won by six lengths on her career debut here in May. The three year old ran too bad to true four weeks later. She’s been working well for her return. Her trainer has a fine record with lay off runners and she is proven fresh. She may be worth a small play to confirm that promise of her first start.

Sunset Harbour (3) is not out of this if she ships in from Florida. September Magic (6) may improve running first time for a sharp trainer. Shared Vision (4) can be forgiven her second start. She looked promising on her debut. Chaching Chaching (11) has a chance off a clear-cut maiden score at Colonial Downs.

00:15 (Sat) Presque Isle Downs  – In Her Glory (1) @ SP

The standard setter here is Kontiki (10). She broke her maiden second time out in Indiana. Since then, she’s won back to back stakes at Belterra Park and Thistledown. They were only against Ohio breds but she thrashed them by an aggregate of twenty lengths. Based on those victories, she is well capable of winning an open stake like this one. She’s never raced on Tapeta but her trainer Brad Cox has a super record on the surface. She is likely to be a short price with Flavien Pratt taking the ride.

Kontiki (10) is not the only runner in this line up shipping in from out of state. Peach Tie (4) won nicely on debut at Colonial Downs last month. There may be a lot of improvement to come from her. She’s never raced on Tapeta but she trains on it. That is also the case with In Her Glory (1). She was green on debut at Colonial Downs. The rail drawn runner was more professional at Saratoga second time out. She won a maiden on turf there. The second and third have franked the form by winning next time out. She may be worth siding with.              

Stablemates Smooch Up (2) and Thank You Amy (5) have the best form locally. The first named won a conditions event by almost ten lengths last month. Thank You Amy (5) may have the best early speed in this race. Form on this track is always an advantage so the pair can’t be discounted. Cuda Cutie (9) is a tougher read. She thrashed a field of maidens on debut on dirt in Indiana. She’s a possible upsetter.
