US Horse Racing Tips - Friday, July 11

- 22:17 Monmouth Park (Race 8) - New Magic @ SP
*odds will be posted closer to race time
21:35 Saratoga (Race 7) - Spirited Boss @ SP
The feature race is a stake for three-year-old fillies carded for five-and-a-half furlongs on the turf.
The two front end types are likely to head the market. They met along in a stake at Gulfstream in March. Cloe (3) went wire to wire and won by almost two lengths.
She has come up just short since but had excuses over the distance and surface. It will be interesting to see if Make Haste (1) can turn the tables. The former Irish trained filly was coming off a lay off and she was ridden a little conservatively. She was given her head at Gulfstream next time and she was dominant from the front.
Abientot (6) was more forcefully ridden than usual when below par in a Grade 3 at Churchill in May. She is at her best as a late runner with a Grade 3 win and stakes places to her name. Pace to chase down seems key to her chances. Gata Brazil (7) has been more tactical in the past. She improved when a closing winner of a stake at Laurel last month.
Laurice (4) seemed to have no excuses when third to Cloe (3) in March. If there is to be an upset, maybe Spirited Boss (5) can post it. She has form on the turf with a stakes win and a runner up try at around a mile.
She showed plenty of speed when breaking her maiden over today’s distance on Tapeta in January. It’s easy to give her a pass for her last run as it was on a sloppy track. Make Haste (1) and Cloe (3) may run one-two around the track and nothing else get in this. If they duel hard on the front end, she may be in prime position to take advantage.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:49 Monmouth Park (Race 7) - Virginia City @ SP
Two of these ran second in similar races to this one last time.
King Mendelssohn (3) did it on soft ground at Penn National. He has form on a firmer footing. Dual Income (6) comes out of the slightly stronger race. He did it here last month, running the best speed figure in here. Both runners have tactical speed.
The pair are players in a competitive-looking affair. They should be well positioned behind possible leader Wild Jaime (2). He was afforded a soft lead when breaking his maiden over course and distance last month.
The most interesting runner in here is Feral's Joy (5). He had form in allowance events but hasn’t raced in over a year. He’s been gelded since his last run and is aggressively spotted plunging in class. His trainer has had some success with lay off runners. Derz Smart (7) also gets class relief. He was reeled in late in a starter event at Delaware last month.
Fully Authorized (8) hasn’t ran to his Tampa best in two starts since shipping north. He’s hard to dismiss now ridden by Samy Camacho. But Devil Anse (1) and Virginia City (4) may have more price appeal.
The rail drawn runner now gets professional handling after an event under a 7lb claimer. Virginia City (4) has been running in better races on dirt. He was first past the post in a maiden on turf. In his other start on grass, He has no chance when in deeper, being wide and sat off a slow pace.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
22:17 Monmouth Park (Race 8) - New Magic @ SP
The standard setter is Bridoza (1). He has ran well in both his starts since being upped to a mile. A length second at Tampa was followed by a fourth in a deep maiden here. A race of this nature could come his way but he may be vulnerable to the lightly raced or unraced runners in here.
That is even more the case with the exposed Atrocious (2). He lost a maiden by a nose at Parx in February. He’s not reproduced that run since even when dropped to maiden claiming company.
Trainer Chad Brown sets a puzzle by entering two runners. Samuel Marin and Samy Camacho have both ridden winners for him here lately so jockey bookings don’t give much away. Camacho was aboard Fiscal Drag (7) when he made his debut on the turf here last month.
He got behind and was closing well late on. He’s likely to be more professional second time out. The switch to dirt is unlikely to be an issue judging by his pedigree. His stablemate New Magic (5) is a first time starter who has been working forwardly at Saratoga. His trainer has a fine record with newcomers. He is taken to gain the barn bragging rights and win this.
Booted U (3) was beaten 10 lengths on debut but he had a troubled trip. He is a colt with a nice pedigree who is likely to take a big step forward now upped to a mile. Mystical Merlin (6) goes for a low profile but capable trainer. He has fired a few bullets in the morning and has the look of a live debutant.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
