Horse Racing Tips: Wager looks a good bet

There’s some competitive action scheduled across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, a pair of jumps cards from Newbury and Fairyhouse supported by a couple of AW fixtures, one of which is under the lights.
We’re focusing on the two afternoon jumps meetings, the action getting underway at Newbury at 12:35, closely followed by Fairyhouse at 12:45. Among our Wednesday fancies is an improving hurdler for trainer Tom Ellis, who looks capable of defying his latest 11lb rise.

13:15 Fairyhouse - Bambino Fever @ 2/13
It was both a shock and a disappointment to see BAMBINO FEVER lose her unbeaten record on her hurdling debut at Naas last month, but last season’s Cheltenham Festival Bumper winner wasn’t far off her best in terms of the figures and will be hard to beat with fitness and experience now on her side.
The six-year-old, who won her only point start, carried all before her in bumpers last term, winning all four outings in that sphere, including a Grade 2 at Leopardstown and a pair of Grade 1s at Cheltenham and Punchestown.
Her best effort came at Punchestown when she ran to a Racing Post Rating of 129, but she was only 4lb shy of that when turned over at odds of 1/4 on her hurdling bow last month.
This is clearly a good opportunity, but there are a couple in opposition with winning form and that could just see her start at bigger odds than she’s entitled to.

15:50 Newbury - Soldier’s Leap @ 13/2
Jack Andrews has built up an excellent rapport with the Tom Ellis-trained SOLDIER’S LEAPthis season and the pair look set to complete a hat-trick in the concluding conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle at Newbury.
The selection showed some good form early last season, but he has improved significantly since undergoing wind surgery at the turn of this year, suffering a narrow defeat at Huntingdon before recording a pair of smooth successes at Stratford and Uttoxeter.
He’s now 14lb higher than when opening his account, but there’s reason to believe we have not yet seen the best of him.

16:00 Fairyhouse - The Wager @ 10/11
Willie and Patrick Mullins were on target in the closing bumper at Punchestown on Monday and they could well be set for a repeat in the last at Fairyhouse on Wednesday with stable debutant, THE WAGER.
The five-year-old ran a blinder on his debut for Pat Doyle at Punchestown last February, beaten just a neck by Gordon Elliott’s Santo Sospir and pulling nicely clear of the third.
The winner has gone on to score twice over hurdles this season, including when running to a lofty Racing Post Rating of 138 at Clonmel last week, likely booking his ticket for a Grade 1 at Leopardstown at the end of this month.
The selection has been bought privately since and moved to Mullins and, with improvement likely, he looks one to keep on side for the foreseeable future.
