Horse Racing Tips: Charlie can collect on handicap debut

A total of five meetings are scheduled to take place across Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, a good mix of Flat and jumping action.

First off is Lingfield’s AW fixture at 12.10, closely followed by Fairyhouse (12:15), Redcar (12:25), Warwick (13:.02) and Wolverhampton’s floodlight fixture, which gets underway at 14:52. Amongst our Tuesday fancies is one for trainer Christopher Mason, who has been running tremendously well all season and remains on a winnable mark.

13:15 Fairyhouse - I’ll Be Handy @ 18/1

The form of those to have run over hurdles so far in this three-year-old maiden hurdle is nothing out of the ordinary and it should provide the Matthew J Smith-trained I’LL BE HANDY, who shaped with promise at massive odds on his debut at Cork last month.

A half-brother to five Flat winners, he’s still a maiden after 11 runs on the level and has shown little in that sphere this year, finishing down the field all starts.

However, he seemed to enjoy the switch to hurdling at Cork and kept on nicely to finish fifth, beaten a shade over five lengths behind Wizard Of Odds, who finished second under a penalty behind a Gordon Elliott-trained hotpot at Down Royal on Saturday.

He ran to a Racing Post Rating of 104 on that occasion and that gives him the edge on those with hurdling experience.

14:10 Lingfield - All Ways Glamorous @ 5/2

Christopher Mason’s ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS has been knocking at the door in strong turf handicaps of late and this surely represents an easier opportunity for the four-year-old.

The selection has won twice this year, scoring off a mark of 66 at Windsor in May and at Chepstow the following month when he readily defied a 5lb higher mark. He’s continued on an upward trajectory since and is now up to a career high rating of 86.

However, he’s run to Racing Post Ratings of 86, 88 and 89 when finding one too good for him at Goodwood, Ascot and Haydock on his last three starts, which suggests he’s still got a bit in hand of the assessor.

He won his maiden at Southwell last season and finished second over this course-and-distance here in June, so shouldn’t be at all inconvenienced by a return to the artificial surfaces.

Alan King is a trainer in-form at present, so his Baskerville warrants respect in this concluding handicap hurdle, as does course specialist Getalead.

However, Jamie Snowden’s DATSALRIGHTCHARLIE looks to be starting out in handicaps off a handy mark and he’s got fitness on his side following a good effort at this track in September.

The Kingston Hill gelding was well held on his only run in a bumper, but he’s done well since going hurdling, making a winning debut by five lengths over 2m4f at Huntingdon in March, albeit not always jumping fluently.

He was ultimately no match for Dan Skelton’s mare Soleil d’Arizona over 2m here on her on his reappearance in September, but he was keeping on nicely at the finish over that inadequate trip and could take a big step forward now back up in distance.
