Horse Racing Tips: Breath can build on Navan promise

There is a busy day’s racing to look forward to on Tuesday across Britain and Ireland, with five meetings scheduled, four of them on the Flat and one over jumps.
First off is Cork (1.45pm), closely followed by Ayr, Sedgefield and Bath. Newcastle stages an eight-race AW card under the lights, with the first race from the Northumberland track due off at 5pm. Among our Tuesday fancies is one for Donald McCain who is on a favourable mark and may have been unlucky not to win at Bangor-on-Dee last time.

14:45 Cork - Winters Breath @ 5/1
It looked like a case of “race over” before it had started for WINTERS BREATH on her handicap debut over 5f at Navan at the beginning of the month, Will McCreery’s lightly raced three-year-old walking out of the gates and losing many lengths.
However, the daughter of Caravaggio was able to latch onto the tail of the main group at halfway and continued to make progress, eventually working her way into fifth of the 18 runners.
She’d raced solely over 7f previously, showing clear ability on her third maiden start at The Curragh in July, which went a long way to earning her an opening official mark of 67.
She was beaten five lengths last time, but that was a huge effort in the circumstances and she’s clearly got a good bit more ability than her current mark suggests, while a distance of 6f should be ideal.

15:37 Sedgefield - Zamond @ 11/4
Donald McCain sent out the first three home in a competitive handicap hurdle at Bangor-on-Dee at the start of the month, favourite Independent Jimmy edging out ZAMOND by a neck, with Jipekaa Machin a little over two lengths further back in third.
It probably made little difference to McCain in terms of which of his trio came home in front, but Brian Hughes and the backers of the runner-up likely felt a bit aggrieved, the nine-year-old travelling strongly on the rail when lightened up and losing valuable momentum between three and two out.
He was always playing catch-up from that point and, while making a good fist of it on the run-in, was never quite getting to his stablemate.
He’s not won since December 2022, but is now 12lb lower and looks poised to cash in on his preferred good ground.

17:55 Bath - Be An Angel @ 14/1
Rod Millman is closing in on his best season for some while, the cheaply bought Anthelia proving a real standout performer for the trainer, having won five of her eight starts, including the National Stakes at Sandown, the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury and the Group 3 Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury earlier this month.
On the same Salisbury card, Millman would have been cursing his luck as BE AN ANGEL saw little in the way of daylight under Lewis Edmunds, despite the small field.
Locked up with nowhere to go for much of the final two furlongs, the filly could never get a clear shot at things and was forced to take back when looking full of running, before keeping on again to take third.
She coped well with the heavy ground on that occasion, but will likely be well suited by this much quicker surface, having won on good to firm at Leicester in the spring off a mark 4lb lower than here.
