Ffos Las has already been lost to the weather on Tuesday and there are doubts about Clonmel, who have called a 07:30 inspection, but there is still plenty for horse racing enthusiasts to sink their teeth into, with a pair of AW cards and a jumps meeting at Southwell set to take place.

The action gets underway at Lingfield at 11:30, followed by Clonmel, inspection permitting, at 12:05, Southwell (12:52) and Newcastle (15:12).

13:00 Lingfield - Knight Of Glory @ 5/4

Whilst David Menuisier’s KNIGHT OF GLORY was unable to justify good each-way support on his introduction at Chelmsford last month, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance of the €75,000 purchase.

The American-bred selection was backed into 11/1 from an opening show of 25/1 under Joe Leavy at the start of November, but he was forced to cover plenty of ground from an awkward wide draw early on, and that told inside the final furlong, as he went from second to fourth.

That was a highly promising start and although he’s got another tricky draw (11) to overcome on this occasion, he’ll likely be sharper from that first experience and has the excellent Rossa Ryan taking over on board.

14:22 Southwell - Big Wigg @ 5/2

Tom Lacey has been hitting the target with regularity from a limited number of runners of late and he could well be in the winners enclosure again courtesy of hurdling newcomer, BIG WIGG, who showed the benefit of March’s Warwick bumper outing when winning at Huntingdon in May under Tuesday's pilot, Stan Sheppard.

He impressed with the way in which he travelled on that occasion although he was forced to work much harder than initially looked likely to see off the plucky runner-up, but he responded generously himself to scrape home by a short-head.

The runner-up won a bumper subsequently and has since added to that with a hurdles win at Ludlow.

Fitness has to be taken on trust, but that’s not usually an issue for this yard and he’s fancied to come out on top.

17:45 Newcastle - Coramento @ 11/2

It’s been a really good year for CORAMENTO and there’s reason to believe he can complete a course hat-trick at Newcastle, despite his latest 5lb rise.

The David Thompson-trained gelding did little at two, but he made a winning start for this stable over this course-and-distance in March at odds of 16/1 and has done very little wrong since.

Narrowly beaten on two occasions in an extremely consistent spell over the spring and summer, he’s since regained the winning thread, scoring over 7f here in September off a mark of 51 before following up over a mile last month.

He had the reopposing Concert Bay (has won since) behind when winning last time and should be capable of confirming his superiority on these 3lb worse terms.
