Horse Racing Tips: Safari set to get back on track

It is a quiet day on Tuesday, with just three meetings scheduled in Britain and none from Ireland. The action is made up of two afternoon jump fixtures and one Flat evening AW card under the lights.

First off is Catterick at 12:15, followed by Wincanton at 12:30 and Newcastle at 15:12. Among our Tuesday fancies is one for trainer Paul Nicholls, who'll be bidding to recoup the losses of last month's hurdling debut defeat.

12:45 Catterick - Manganese @ 2/1

This is likely a better race than the one MANGANESE won at Leicester in November on her British debut last month, but she did wonders to come out on top on that occasion, having almost been taken off the track by an errant loose horse with a circuit to run.

A winner of a bumper on her sole start in France, she was a bit of an unknown quantity when making her debut for up-and-coming young trainer, Max Comley, at Leicester, albeit she wasn't without market support behind the long odds-on favourite.

Sent straight to the front by David Bass, she was carried badly left on the paddock exit and almost did a complete 360-degree turn, losing around 20 lengths in the process.

To rally in the style she did, let alone reel in the favourite, was a mighty effort and she should not be underestimated now taking on the boys under a penalty.

14:00 Wincanton - Swingin Safari @ 10/11

The Paul Nicholls-trained SWINGIN SAFARI had some strong bumper form to his name last season and was in the process of running a solid race on his hurdling debut at Chepstow last month, prior to coming down at the final flight.

Runner-up in an Irish bumper for Sam Curling in April 2024, he changed hands for €165,000 at the sales the following month.

Swingin Safari made a winning start for Nicholls at this track last November and did nothing to improve subsequently, running to Racing Post Ratings of 111 when fourth in Listed company at Ascot and 120 when filling the same spot in a Grade 2 at Aintree.

Given wind surgery in the summer, he headed the market at 6/4 ahead of a switch to hurdles at Chepstow last month and, still held every chance, albeit under pressure, when flanked on both sides and coming down heavily at the last.

That wasn't ideal, but he's likely been intensively schooled since and should be sharper physically from that comeback.
