Horse Racing Tips: May can blossom again

A busy day of action on Thursday sees five UK and two Irish meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.
Nottingham, Salisbury and Bellewstown are the afternoon’s flat meetings, while they go over jumps at Southwell and Clonmel. The evening action comes from Chelmsford and Newcastle. Amongst our Thursday fancies is a reliable mare who remains well handicapped on plenty of form despite winning last time out.

15:35 Nottingham - May Blossom @ 8/1
Despite running plenty of decent races this season, six-year-old MAY BLOSSOM had dropped handily down the ratings before pouncing late to grab her ninth career victory last time out at Redcar, and she can follow up in this valuable series final.
She was sent off at 11/1 at that more speed-favouring track, but despite darting out to her left at the start and finding herself towards the rear of the field with two furlongs to run, she ran out a ready winner.
That win came off a mark of 71 under David Allan, and a 3lb nudge leaves her on a mark lower than for her five previous victories.
The fact that one of those successes came at Nottingham and on soft ground can’t do her chances any harm, and she looks a likely sort to follow up, with Allan keen to keep up the partnership despite Tim Easterby having four runners in the race.

17:10 Nottingham - Harswell Ruby @ 3/1
Though only a winner once so far, HARSWELL RUBY has been narrowly beaten four times this season and can gain reward for that consistency in this mile series final.
Having started the season in good form with a short-head defeat followed by a win, she finds herself only 7lb higher this afternoon despite a string of really good and progressive efforts.
Despite today’s race being a step up in grade, it isn’t much more competitive than the two Class 4s she ran really well in in her two most recent starts and her last run, on the softest ground she has been on this season, was a career-best.
She came well clear with an unexposed Shadwell three-year-old that day, and if the cheekpieces can help in any way, she can take this nice prize.

19:00 Newcastle - Al Joory @ 11/4
Roger Varian’s AL JOORY had a troubled passage but found only one rival too strong over course and distance last time and there doesn’t look to be too much in this field to bother her.
Her only previous win came over seven furlongs at Kempton, so unsurprisingly it was at that trip that she had her next three starts on turf at Doncaster and the Polytrack at Lingfield and back at Kempton.
They were decent runs without showing progression but a switch to this stiff six furlongs might have paid off last time had she got a clear run at the right moment.
This smaller field should ensure she gets a smoother run and she may be able to take care of the four rivals who reoppose from that race, as well as her three other rivals, without too much trouble.
