Doncaster races scaled

It’s the final turf Flat meeting of the season at Doncaster on Saturday, one of several high-profile meetings scheduled to take place across Britain and Ireland. Aintree also stages the Grand Sefton meeting, and there's Premier action from Wincanton, on Badger Beers day. Elsewhere, there's action from Kelso, Gowran Park and Wolverhampton.

We've studied the various cards and landed on a few horse racing tips for Saturday - including one for trainer Ralph Beckett, who bids to become the first horse in the history of the November Handicap to win the race twice.

Horse Racing Tips - Saturday, November 8

  • 14:05 Aintree - Dunstall Rambler @ 15/2
  • 15:30 Wincanton - Threeunderthrufive @ 3/1
  • 15:45 Doncaster - Lord Melbourne @ 7/1

14:05 Aintree - Dunstall Rambler @ 15/2

The Tom George-trained DUNSTALL RAMBLER looked to have just joined in when cruising up the side of the leaders at the second-last on his return at Worcester last month, and he may be capable of overcoming a 12lb hike.

The selection did well in his first season over fences, winning twice off marks of 90 and 95, but he looked to have done particularly well over the summer months when making a mockery of 100 at the West Midlands venue.

Still, he’s entitled to a strip fitter for that first run since March, and this course should be ideal, all his best performances coming on flat tracks.

Interestingly, George has done well in this race in the past, winning it in 2017 with Baby King and in 2021 with Darling Du Large, the latter of which was successful for this horse’s owner.

15:30 Wincanton - Threeunderthrufive @ 3/1

Paul Nicholls’ THREEUNDERTHRUFIVE rather lost his way at the end of last season, pulling up in the Grand National and the Gold Cup on the final day at Sandown in April, but he’s since undergone wind surgery and should make a bold bid.

The 10-year-old is 6lb higher this time around, but on the same mark as when edged out by Victtorino at Ascot in February.

This also lacks the depth you’d generally expect with this race, only seven runners going to post, so a remarkable 12th win in the race may well await the Ditcheat-based handler.

15:45 Doncaster - Lord Melbourne @ 7/1

No horse has won the November Handicap more than once, but there’s reason to believe that the Ralph Beckett-trained LORD MELBOURNE can buck that trend.

The five-year-old has run only once since beating Waxing Gibbous by a length here 12 months ago, but he produced an impressive performance, running away with a 10-runner Epsom handicap off a mark of 94.

He’s now up to 103, meaning he’s 13lb above last season’s success, but he’s now won five of his 11 starts on turf and still has the potential to make up into a Pattern-race type, particularly on easy ground, which he’ll surely get on Saturday.

15:45 Doncaster - Winner
