Tuesday Racing Tips: Punch can floor Bangor rivals

Jumps racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Thursday among five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

14:15 Bangor - Planters Punch @ 11/10

Nicky Henderson has saddled 10 winners from only 43 runners at Bangor-on-Dee since 2021 and he looks set to enhance that already impressive strike-rate with PLANTERS PUNCH in the opener at the Welsh venue on Tuesday.

The four-year-old made a winning debut at Hereford in November, showing a good attitude under pressure to edge out Warren Greatrex's Aqua Bleu - the first two pulling nicely clear of the remainder.

That form reads exceptionally well with the runner-up since winning his subsequent three starts and the third-placed Dakota Star scoring at Exeter last week.

A 7lb penalty makes life a bit harder, but he's open to any amount of improvement and this similarly sharp track should suit.

Martin Todhunter has enjoyed a good season with his chasers, including with DIDNTGOTWENTY, who looks set to follow-up last month's Musselburgh win, despite a 9lb hike.

The seven-year-old showed only modest levels of ability over hurdles, but as is generally the case with horses from this yard, chasing was always going to be his game.

Indeed, he has shown rapid improvement since switching to fences with cheekpieces applied, his second behind Sandy Thompson's Marty McFly at Musselburgh on New Year's Day now reading especially well with that rival having gone on to win his next three outings.

The selection got off the mark with a lot more in hand than the official margin of six lengths suggested at the Edinburgh track last month and, while this looks stronger, he's open to plenty of improvement, particularly on this goodish ground being from the family of Presenting.

19:00 Wolverhampton - Marinakis @ 15/2

Ian Williams' MARINAKIS has done all his winning in classified company, but this handicap presents a winnable opportunity for the six-year-old, who sneaks in off at the bottom of the weights off a mark of just 48.

The son of Ulysses has been kept almost solely to the artificial surfaces throughout his career, winning three times, including once over this course-and-distance.

Successful at Chelmsford in January, he's been holding his form well since and was only beaten three-quarters of a length when third here a fortnight ago, running to a creditable Racing Post Rating of 54 in the process.

A repeat of that would put him bang there and Ryan Kavanagh's 5lb claim means he's only got to carry 8st 7lb.
